Of those though, Cruz is the only one you can say Seattle “attracted”. Beltre and Cano were massively overpaid. Sexson was overpaid but he was at least worth it until his 3rd year.

I don't see why Seagar couldn't be the Ryan Zimmerman/Nats type guy in Seattle.
I miss Cruz, he was the perfect DH for us, but he got too old for our rebuild. He keeps chugging along though.
Devils Advocate: If you obtain enough Cruz type players, you don't need a rebuild. You just add the youngsters to the mix and build a winner. I know that is a new concept for Mariners, but I have seen it work.
Damn you beat me to it. Yes we can offer Corey Seager or whatever big free agent next year $400M and get him here, but that never works. Improve the lineup 1 through 9 and not add a Cano and only. And I will say this for the umpteenth time, Dipoto has not added one legit pro bat via free agency since he has been here and now we need him to add 2 maybe 3 in the same offseason. Maybe he can, but a lot working against him.
That is where I am at. Offer a 3 year extension of say 12 million with incentives that can get him back to 17 or 18. Unless they decide they want to enter Bryant sweepstakes but I don’t think they will.
Cruz is the one that pisses me off. He could’ve been had for 7 million in whatever that year was (2014?) that they missed the playoffs. They said they wouldn’t touch guys linked to PEDS. Can’t do it in the year they needed him but gave him 14 million or whatever the next offseason. Getting too old I don’t think is the reason. Aging vets are vital to young teams especially in the bs era of analytics vs real world. But I think in their perfect world Vogelbach would be the full time DH and can’t pay that much money for a guy they were only hoping would play against lefties.
Exactly. And this is why other rebuilds have worked. I love what the Padres have done in terms of exploding their budget. It wasn’t all at once and the years are staggered. It is why I was a huge proponent of getting Snell. There is zero chance they will get an ace with his salary and years.

Yea Ill have to see it to believe it in terms of giving any outside free agent significant money. Outside of Kikuchi they really havent paid anyone since Dipoto has been here outside of like Juan Nicasio if that counts.
