Keeping eyes on the long term, the goal is still to keep him healthy and performing to get the best possible return on a trade this Summer.

He's had a pretty great start, hitting .268/8HR/23RBI, so that seems to be on track through month 1. He's definitely capable of raising the average a little, but the power numbers should have any contender bidding for his services.

Realistically, what should we be looking at in return?

I'd expect a highly rated SP prospect to start the conversation. It's obviously a big need for us going forward and you can never have enough arms, which we've come to learn all too well.

With his age and injury history. You aren’t getting a top 5 prospect back for him unless they package a prospect with him. He is playing really good ball, but he is playing Mariners good ball, not a bidding war good.

jedi..will likely..sign graveman...again...and paxton after..TJ

if they sign seager..for 2 more years..or extend.him...then he is 35..as a defencive..3B..that is not good..like getting old for a SS..or Cf...if ya cant hit all that good ya end up on the bench

ok..getting to haniger......yeah....they could trade haniger..between..2021..deadline and 2022..deadline...but does jedi..want to....
france and haniger...are there 2 best hitters...haniger..is dhing a lot right now...i think it more likely..he extends...or jedi..tryes to talk him..into an other contract
hard to tear..your team apart..before it is even re-built

the thing is
haniger will prob go forward as a.. dh..and less RF

julio rodrigez..is most likely..to..RF..in the future..after haniger...or in between...maybe..trammell..if he can stop striking out..cuz when kelenic comes up..he will have ..LF/Cf..sowed up..and lewis..is in CF

france..is DH/2b/1B

moore..will not last..at 2B
marmo..will not last..as 1B/LF...so between france..and haniger...they can try..to make up for marmo..but the best thing marmo did..last year..was bat
if he cant do that....he will soon be done

cuz france will 1B..and they will call up kelenic...send down..trammell..cuz he strikes out to much..and haggerty..will play 4th outfeild guy

White Sox are desperately looking for a good outfielder with two of their top players out for most of the season. I would trade him right now for the right deal.

Doubtful that Paxton is resigned after missing another year with TJ.

Don't resign Hanniger, or wait til off-season to trade him. Should he keep his offense going, as is the point of this thread, you trade him when the demand is highest, which is at the deadline this year.

White will be our 1B of the future. He needs to improve his contact, but his defense is elite.

France is more likely to be at 3B or 2B going forward, probably 2B based on not seeing him at 3rd at all. He could DH, and I'd be much happier seeing that than holding onto a 30+ year old Hanniger when he has trade value.

You are taking a huge gamble waiting til then, but may have no choice. I have no problem extending him and rolling the dice he stays healthy for his career.

Major league ready prospects.

We don't need HR hitters as much as we need starting pitchers and average hitters. Seager, Lewis, France, White, and Murphy have all shown they can hit the ball out. We need guys on base when they do.

No doubt, but M's don't exactly attract free agents in bunches or with talent so they need to gamble on some of their current players. I mean if you could trade him for a 23 year old major league ready hitter then go for it. I see them getting a prospect for him that isn't Top 5 of any organization.

Beltre/Sexson
Cano/Cruz

They absolutely can sign legit FA hitters when they're ready (next year). I worry more about signing starting pitchers, which we'll need more though.

This year is still about developing the young lineup for the years ahead and I just don't see Hanniger as having much value in those years. Get as much from him right now while he does have value.

Water is wet, the sky is blue, and hitters strike out. There's plenty of time for White to improve on that.

Here's the main problem. I dont think you are getting anything super valuable for him no matter what his numbers are. He's 30 years old and hasnt been able to stay healthy plus if you trade for him you need to deal with a new contract unless you are ok with him being a pure rental for 1.5 years.

Also if you plan on competing in 2022, I dont see how it makes sense to trade him. In a lineup that's clearly void of major league bats with only maybe another 1 or 2 coming up from the minors in the next year, I dont see how things are going to get a ton better quickly. Maybe if you had guys like White, Crawford, Moore hitting it would make more sense. But if you trade Haniger, it would almost seem like you are telling your fan base that we don't plan on going hard in 2022 which wont sit well.

I could see a Giles like deal where they pay him small money to rehab for a year. It's not like he will get a big offer anywhere else plus he clearly likes it here.

This is where I am at. The window to trade him for max value has passed. I still think his best value to the franchise now is to stay and perform.

i dont..want to seem..wishy washy..on this...cuz i said last night that i would trade...haniger...but...

SeattleCougs...view..that the best value..to the..team..

and after thinking about it overnight... kind of(there is some math involved as well it is a bit impersonal ).....lol..came to the same conclusion..that i was going to post...but seacoug beat me to ..it..lol
is for them to keep..haniger...in my view...is the correct one

1 haniger....not the top of Hrs....but is good at Hrs
2haniger..is leadoff..and does well there
3 if you trade him..then you need an other guy who can do what he does...the mariners do not have that..in ..the farm...julio...is not haniger..as far as ..HRS at least...and julio.....may have a better ave...than..haniger...but who knows
4 hitters..are good..up beyond..age 30...some good hitters do not even get going..till then...haniger's .......best years.....may be ahead of him..and prob are
5the thing that would stop..haniger...are injuries.....which he has ..had some...the ability..is still...there..after he has come back from injury

6n haniger may need..to make adjustments...as right now ..he and france...are in a mini...slump....adjust..adjust..adjust...lol

7 haniger is a team leader..in the out field...as seager is in the infield...while..lewis is a rising..leader as well...which..is and was my initial reaction
why tear your team apart...before...you are done with the re -build...does not make sense

The interesting decision is should they work on an extension for Seager.
