Miles Austin suggested that 2013 could be his last season with the Cowboys.

Austin was forced to restructure his contract this offseason and is set to make $5.5 million in 2014. In addition to his salary concerns, he has dealt with multiple injuries in each of the last two years. "There's new people coming into the league. People leaving the league every year. That's just the way the system goes," Austin said. "To be naive of the fact, you're lying to yourself."
I have been thinking this for awhile now.

I'm betting Austin plays in 16 games, posts 1000 yards+, Jerry rewards him a new 5 year contract(costing us a young player or two in the process) and then Austin spends 12 games on the PUP the following year with hamstring tightness

I have always liked Miles. I have always thought him and Romo had a great connection. Im sure they worked a lot with each other back in the Bledsoe days. I remember when Terry Glenn was finally released, Romo was asked the question who would replace Glenn? This was before Roy W 11. Romo answered keep your eyes open. There is some here that are ready ( here meaning training camp). Hurd , of course, was training camp Jerry Rice every year and Miles was always injured, but every preseason game Romo would get Miles involved. Now he could have speaking of Hurd too, but I always believed he was talking about Austin. Then he finally got his chance and delivered. Before then, I always thought he was a great, great KR. It looked like was shot out of a cannon when recieved the ball. He always got vertical so quick. I would hate to see Miles go.

I don't think any of us want to see Austin go.... Top notch guy.

We have just fucked ourselves with the cap. I think we are gonna have to eventually sooner than later bite the bullet on some guys.

If you can replace a guy even if he has a small contract under 4 million with a rookie contract guy (under a million) you just saved 3 million on the cap. I think we are going to see that happen with a few guys. J Ratt is another.
Youth is the future. Lee has to be signed. Bryant soon. Carter.
and I really hate to say it .... but Carr's contract is a killer. And we got him last year. So we are stuck with his.

What ever happened to danny coale? Is he still on the team? I saw him play in college a bunch and the guy was a killer. He had sneaky speed and great hands. I think I remember him getting injured last preseason but never heard how it turned out.

He's still here. I think he has the makings of a dangerous NFL WR. Odd thing is for the first time in years Dallas may have to cut a very good WR or two.

I like Miles a lot, but I don't see much value after this season anyway. He has trouble staying healthy as is, that won't improve with age. Hopefully Williams will be able to fill the void and we could add another dependable receiver in the offseason.

Would Miles for Trent Coal be a good trade if the cap numbers worked out. I would hate to see Austin just walk and we get nothing for him. Only reason I said this trade because they both have obvious needs and both team can get better right away.

I believe trading Miles would bring a 5.892 cap hit this season. He can be released or traded next season with no cap penalty. I looks like financially the trade is possible but why would either team want to help the other?

After the Pats .... face reality this year with a lack of weapons .... and Craft/Jones realationship

Next offseason you can look for that as a possibility

Cowboy fans should be worried sick if we are to trade with NE. You know we will take it in the ass. I wouldn't be too shocked if they sent us AH for Miles.

The Pats would abuse us more than the Niners did no thanks on that one. You hardly ever see trades within one division, but I think both these teams are so desperate that it can't be ruled out.

I have thought about Miles Austin to SF for a number 1 in next years draft. Losing Crabtree for the year may well cost a great SF team a Super Bowl. Surely a salesman as great as Jerry could make that deal and get SF to take on his salary and we have the space to cover his bonus hit. Jerry gave up 2 #1's for Galloway and a #1 and #3 to Detroit for Roy Williams. SF is so loaded, next years number 1 might not even start. For Dallas, Williams and Harris could step up, we'd clear space for next year, and have two number 1's in a loaded draft

How about getting rid of Ratliff and Ware and getting some real D-lineman. I'd rather get rid of both of them than Austin. At least Austin produces when healthy. Ratliff is nothing but a drunk cancer and Ware is a over hyped, over paid, dumbass wimp that doesn't show up for big games and kills us against the run. Getting rid of those 2 contract would be a big help. I'd rather keep Carr.

I agree with you you on Ratliff. I couldn't disagree with you more on Ware though. Ware has been one of the few bright spots on this team for a few years now. I will say this as I said in the 4 letter networks board....if we can get a kings ransom for Ware like we gave to the Lions or like The skins gave to the Rams lets do it. Other than that he should retire a Cowboy.

Ware is a stud. There's only a handful of players in the league that can disrupt the pass rush the way he does. But that's not the point of this thread.

Miles is a solid, solid player and I hope he's healthy this year. But receivers are a dime a dozen. Hopefully Williams steps up and I'm sure we can either find someone from within to fill in as a number 3 guy or there will be a vet looking for work that could be dependable. Hopefully Escobar can become a legit receiving threat as well.

I wouldn't be so quick to underestimate Ware as a DE. He will have 15 sacks this year, mark the tape

Won't get many sack opportunities when you give up over 200 yards rushing. RGIII schooled Ware's ass both games last year. Many teams love it when Ware rushes. They usually and more often than not, draw, trap and screen to his vacant spot for huge gains, usually in huge games.
