Zimm is a great DC and deserves a shot for certain, and with 6 jobs open there's a good chance he lands one this year...CLE DEF is not the reason they can't get out of last place...QB...with Hoyer returning and having the 4th and 25th slots...I would take Bortles, and use the 26th pick on Marquis Lee.

I think CLE has 2 second rd picks as well so they should be able to get the #1 or #2 rb off the board and still use a few bucks on a veteran like McFadden.

I'd be shocked if Lee lasts that long in the draft. He's Dez Bryant without the glaring character questions imo

Cleveland lost like their last 10 games, but if you give them a QB, a RB and put Zimmer in charge of that defense basically, look the hell out. They are going to be a quick up and comer.

Cleveland hires Zimmer to be head coach.

Cleveland goes and spends the bucks on Jay Cutler.

Cleveland goes and grabs Darren McFadden on a smaller contract than his talent suggests because of his injury history and draft a good RB in round 2-3 as a backup for when McFadden gets hurt or to platoon with him.

Sprinkle in a little more talent. Cleveland is relavent once again.

Cleveland looks like a dream landing spot for a QB right now. An All Pro LT, a super elite young WR, an athletic pass catching TE, a good defense, and a bunch of early picks in the draft..

I hope Chicago puts the franchise tag on him

Simmer has gone on record to say he deserves a shot as a HC and has openly wondered why he hasn't gotten it yet. There is no way he turns down ANY open vacancy.

It will be difficult to see Cleveland offering a job to him as Horton has done a good job as DC in his first season there. Expect Zimmer to be given an offer where, if anywhere, he will be allowed to bring in his own guy.

Head coaches rarely make the same impact on their respective side of the ball as they did as coordinators.

I highly doubt he ends up in Cle. Seems they are set on McDaniels, from what I've read.

I should edit and say that Coordinators are not always given to have the same impact on their respective side of the ball once they are head coaches.

I think Zim deserves a shot, and if he gets one I will wish him well. I'm shocked he hasn't received a shot yet. There's a better than 50/50 chance he gets an offer this year imo. As for Gruden, I don't believe his resume is built up enough yet to get an offer. Another couple of years at oc with maybe a strong offensive performance both years and he might be ready.

Apparently, from what was said after the MIA interview, he doesn't interview well, and comes across to blunt to upper management. I guess the teams with upper management control feel he could end up being a loose cannon or cause dissention between owenership and his own vision?

That's just a guess on my part, though it was reported about his issues when interviewing.

And hell, I'm going to be selfish. I hope he stays here. LOL

Oh, I do hope he stays. As far as those blunt interviews go, to me that's a strength. He's the kind of guy who is respected by his players, partially because he doesn't pull punches. Any organization that doesn't embrace that, well, that is their problem imo, and may go a long way in explaining those organizations' lack of recent success.

Completely agree...

I can't remember who made the comparison, but one analyst compared Zimmer to Arians as a veteran coordinator who'll thrive once he's given a chance as a HC.

As a fan I have as much respect for Zimmer as anyone who's ever been a part of the organization the past 20 yrs.

Part of me hopes that he stays, but I'll also root for him as long as he stays out of the division

I think Jerry Jones should hire him.

The Dallas defense needs to be rebuilt, Dallas would be a dream job (home still there) for Zimmer, and he would be comfortable with Jerry's shit. He has six years experience with a team that is run through the owner - I don't think it would irk him that much.

The only problem with that is Dallas still has a hc.....

If a defense needs to be fixed, then hire Zim as a DC...not a HC.

As a HC, he's going to have less input on the defense. He'll hire a DC and let him run it. Sure, you have hire guys that do things similar/same way, but it doesn't always work out.

How many DC's did Marvin run through before getting Zim? We all know that, if nothing else, Marvin knows defense and personel on defense. Yet, the impact was minimal with him as HC. As most good HC's do, they tend to allow their coaches to coach.

I think Zim can be a good HC, but I think it's folly to point out him going to a team, and then that team taking huges steps on defense just because he's the HC there.

Just my thoughts on it all.

I agree with you.
I think the one exception to this was Rex Ryan

I agree to an extent..... Some coordinators take a more hands on approach than Marvin - Look at Rex Ryan. He has remained very involved in defensive scheming over the years.

Am I the only one that finds this surprising? How long does Garrett get?

He gets a long leash because he has been Jerry Jones' "guy" all along. To fire Garrett would be for Jones to admit he made a mistake.

Best thing that could happen for us is for Mike Brown to tell Marvin he can be the GM next year and then let Zimmer take over. I do think Marvin becomes the first legit GM of this franchise b/c he is probably considered family at this point. He can scout talent for sure.

If Jay Gruden goes anywhere, he should want to go to Detroit and fix Stafford. That team is hugely talented and total underachievers.

Brown likes having control of the roster and contracts too much to let Marv be GM, Pete and Paul Brown are basically in charge of player personnel, and Katy is the executive VP, so that would be like firing his family and giving the job to Marvin.
