There is only one way that Mike Shanahan would make my "dead to me" list and this is the way. How could he ever go from preaching how much he hated the Raiders and getting us as fans and the team all excited to go and pummel the Raiders to then go and coach them? I understand there are only 32 Head Coaching jobs available so any chance you get you got to take one but why the Raiders of all teams?
I don't know for sure, but I doubt that a lot of teams would still hire him. He's not had many highlights since '98.
This would be my guess as well. Lack of significant success coupled with GM demands would worry some teams. I also think, since Al Davis has passed, he is more okay with the Raiders.

Didn't realize that he was a candidate for all of those jobs. Have to think that the 9ers job would rank high on his wish list.
The more I think about that job the more that is one I just would not want to touch. Yes of all the teams without a coach it has the most talent but anything short of a Super Bowl in the first 2 years or so will be deemed a failure as a coaching hire. Everything they do will be compared to that of Harbaugh and honestly I think Shanahan is the only guy they are interviewing that can come in and be a big enough name and a big enough personality to handle that kind of situation. I think it is a good fit for him but guys like Gase I just can't see that being a good fit.
You make some good points. I was thinking more about his past history in SF, which certainly compares favorably to his history with the Raiders!
Randymon I guess the reason I would be upset is because Shanahan is the one who helped build my Raider hate. Fans during his era just fed off him in how much we should hate the Raiders and how sweet it is to beat them. So for him to now be thinking about the Raiders just seems so counter to what I know of Shanahan. I know it is a different era with Al Davis gone but just hate the thought of him going there. Plus he is an actual decent coach so hate the thought of the Raiders actually getting a competent coach once again. I've liked that they haven't been able to hire anybody of decent caliber and have loved most of the names that have been associated with them once again because other than Del Rio it has been a list of just what they fired in some somewhat up and comers but nothing too much to get excited about.
