Maybe Mike thinks it's his only shot to finally get the money the Raiders still owe him, :noidea:

There is only one way that Mike Shanahan would make my "dead to me" list and this is the way. How could he ever go from preaching how much he hated the Raiders and getting us as fans and the team all excited to go and pummel the Raiders to then go and coach them? I understand there are only 32 Head Coaching jobs available so any chance you get you got to take one but why the Raiders of all teams?

I don't know for sure, but I doubt that a lot of teams would still hire him. He's not had many highlights since '98.

This would be my guess as well. Lack of significant success coupled with GM demands would worry some teams. I also think, since Al Davis has passed, he is more okay with the Raiders.

He seems to be getting quite a bit of interest though from what I can tell with the Bills, Raiders, 49ers all having him in for interviews so far. So while he isn't the crazy sought after guy that he was 2-time Super Bowl Champs will always have a chance at HC jobs. I will say this though in it does seem like there are just not enough jobs for all these guys who seem locks to get a Head Coaching job that everybody keeps talking about. I mean I look at Gase and every job that he is being interviewed for the teams seem to have brought in 6-7 legit possible HC's. I'm not so sure he actually gets one this year. Del Rio seems to be Raiders or nothing yet they have probably brought in more people to interview than any other team in the league. Teams say they hate waiting for playoff teams to finish to finalize the coaching interviews so I would say if Broncos make it to the Super Bowl both Del Rio and Gase will be back.

I'd guess that's probably the biggest factor.

Better to work with one of the Three Stooges than with the Crypt Keeper I guess:noidea:

Didn't realize that he was a candidate for all of those jobs. Have to think that the 9ers job would rank high on his wish list.

The more I think about that job the more that is one I just would not want to touch. Yes of all the teams without a coach it has the most talent but anything short of a Super Bowl in the first 2 years or so will be deemed a failure as a coaching hire. Everything they do will be compared to that of Harbaugh and honestly I think Shanahan is the only guy they are interviewing that can come in and be a big enough name and a big enough personality to handle that kind of situation. I think it is a good fit for him but guys like Gase I just can't see that being a good fit.

You make some good points. I was thinking more about his past history in SF, which certainly compares favorably to his history with the Raiders!

Which is another reason I think he is actually perfect for that job. He gets himself a playoff ready roster and a quarterback that honestly could be viewed as a very poor man's Elway. He has all the athletic ability and maybe even more than that of Elway. He just doesn't have the head for the game like that of Elway or that drive. Maybe Shanahan is one of the few that could go in and maximize Kaepernick.

It would kill me to see Shanahan coaching the Raiders. I'm still loyal to the guy for our Superbowl years and division championships but that would negate all of that for sure.

I think he would be a good fit in either Oakland or SF. That's a bummer but I think he would do well in Oak without Davis now. Don't know why some think loyalty and Denver/ raider bashing eons ago should mean anything esp after Denver gave him his walking papers also. Money and opportunity weighs more than fan fueled opinions to Shanny

I'd hate to see him in Oakland, but the man has to go where he believes the money is. I figured he'd want to coach a contender, and while I believe Oakland has the pieces in place to grow into a contender in the coming years, I think the 49ers are closer to what Shanny has in mind (if indeed he wants to coach a contender). The 8-8 49ers were the 12-4 49ers a year ago, and probably capable of becoming a 12-4 team again in 2015 under the right coach. I'd love to see Shanahan take over that team, and so long as it's not at the Broncos expense, I'd love to see him lead them to another SB win.

Randymon I guess the reason I would be upset is because Shanahan is the one who helped build my Raider hate. Fans during his era just fed off him in how much we should hate the Raiders and how sweet it is to beat them. So for him to now be thinking about the Raiders just seems so counter to what I know of Shanahan. I know it is a different era with Al Davis gone but just hate the thought of him going there. Plus he is an actual decent coach so hate the thought of the Raiders actually getting a competent coach once again. I've liked that they haven't been able to hire anybody of decent caliber and have loved most of the names that have been associated with them once again because other than Del Rio it has been a list of just what they fired in some somewhat up and comers but nothing too much to get excited about.

^^^This!

Of course Shanahan has the right to go where he sees fit. I'm not standing in the way of the guy earning a living. However, as a Bronco fan since the 70's I don't have to like it. In fact, I can hate it with venomous passion. I remember when Shannon Sharpe went to the Ravens. I was miserable with that move but equally stoked when he came back home. If Shanny went to the Raiders, I would root against him with everything I've got. I just don't want to have to do that to a guy that I respect and like. I have always viewed him as a part of the Bronco family. Fans are strange that way with their loyalties and I guess I'm just a fan!

:) oh I know what you mean CD. Hell, I've been hating on Raiders long before Shanny came along. Since I've been Bronco fan ( 1969 there abouts ), the Raiders have been a Broncos fans #1 grudge for sure. Your still young and I'm an old fart CD and up in till recent yrs, there was no way any coach would go to a rival division team back in the old days. Just didn't happen much. Hello teams wouldn't even let their coaches interview with div rivalries.
