So they hired a guy who is 24-26 in his last four years with the best year being a 9-4 team. Ok but it seems like they made a change for changes sake hiring this guy. IMO he is not who they should be looking at.

He is 93-80 overall at Oregon St. Considering the talent deficit that he had at Oregon St., he has done an excellent job. He is a true class act and one of the most well respected coaches in all of cfb.

Nebraska got a good one, imo.

And from a personality perspective, he is the polar opposite of Pelini.

I don't think people understand how bad of a job Oregon State is. If you were to rank the least desirable major conference job, it would probably be #3 behind Washington State and Wake Forest. Maybe Indiana as well, but that's it.
Yeah, but the flip side to this is how important it is to win at Nebraska and 'why didn't he go somewhere else earlier?'. Given his age, he might be given 2 years to perform before getting the can for someone young.

Riley will do very well at Nebraska. Not the big splash that the Cornholers wanted, but trust me, this guy is a great guy and will do very well. He may not have had the best teams in the PAC, but he was the classiest coach and will do great in the living rooms of the heartland explaining to parents why their kids should go to Nebraska.

Good luck Coach Riley....the PAC will miss you.

For whatever in may be worth, while I am good with the Sark hire by my Trojans, when the job was still available, I was praying that we'd get Riley.

This is a great Christmas present to Husker Nation. Mike Riley is pure class. He is the type of coach that Nebraska deserves and Nebraska is the type of program he deserves. I have damn near become schizophrenic over the past few years trying to cheer for Nebraska while they had a flaming a-hole for their head coach. Now........Go Big Red and start winning the B1G.

I have no problems with Nebraska learning how to lose with class

Let's not forget Mike Riley once turned down a job offer from Alabama, the team he played for.

That is a good hire. Riley is a proven coach. I have a lot of respect for that guy. The question will be can he recruit at a level to bring Nebraska back
Not that I care, but this is a terrible hire. Riley was mediocre at best in the NFL and since with O St

Corvallis was ranked top10 college towns not long ago...it's sleepy conservative small town. ANY coach would give their left nut here IF they wanted a Pac12 coaching job that is.

Jonathon Smith?

What a terrible hire, you're really telling me he's gonna have more success at Nebraska than Pelini?

Guy is very well respected. Since 1950, 2 coaches have a winning career record at Oregon State. The guy had 88 wins prior to this year in 13 seasons, OSU shad 77 in the 25 years prior. Thinking this guy cant coach is a failure of understanding the history of OSU. It is easy to pick apart a coach with a long history and over-estimate coaches with short tenures.

Well at least nebraska came to grips with the fact they aren't a destination job anymore, and grabbed the best available.
