Yep, he and Tocchet stayed. And I have no idea why. Well, Tocchet because he obviously has something on Mario. Has to. Martin I guess to be the defensive guy. I'll always find it weird when they keep assistants from an old regime. How do you expect that to go? But then again, not like a new coach mid-season has time to call up his buddies.

I thought Agnew was doing a fine job, but I think this persistence of the same guys running the coaching is the problem. Would have liked Johnston to have gotten a chance to do things his way entirely. I think for him, trying to incorporate all these philosophies thrown his way was what did him in. Tocchet and Martin are two of those philosophies.

Everyone has to be on the same page for coaching to work, but you don't do that by ripping three people's pages out and gluing a third of each together. The result of that is incomprehensible.

I heard Tocchet was running a pick the day Johnston gets the sack pool.

I had a Mike Sullivan for 11th grade English, I'm not sure if it's the same guy or not.

COACH KILLA CROSBY STRIKES AGAIN!

This (along with Kessel digs) has picked up a depressing amount of favor out there...which is funny in this league, because coaches get fired like its a magical cure. Since the 2010-11 season began there are four coaches with the same team. A few actually surprised me. Quenville and Julien I knew. Others? Capuano and Tippet. Although five more found their current jobs by the 2011-12 season. Still an interesting look into the carousel of NHL coaching. Heck, we've even lost the Babcock and Trotz lengthy streaks in the past few years.

It's not in firing, it's in hiring the next one where the magic happens.

I'm really starting to get the sense Malkin doesn't like Kessel. See how pissed he got when Kessel missed his pass in the first?

I'm not sure, but I think I overheard Malkin telling Phil to stop hot dogging it on the ice...

What kind of world do we live in that Jack Capuano is the second longest tenured coach in the NHL????

Yeah and JT is mired in a huge slump. I guess you can finally say you have a good team when your best guy is struggling and the team is still winning.

Back to Pittsburgh though....are they as hot of a mess as they seem?

Good riddance. MJ just seemed overwhelmed in the NHL. He didn't play to our strengths at all, the PP was a mess (we'll see how much of that was Tocchet....) and he used the bench horribly. Overplayed Scuderi, Kunitz, Dupuis, etc... while barely playing the cost-effective potential in guys like Clendening and Sprong. Just a waste.

Don't know much about Sullivan, but sounds like he holds players accountable, which is a step in the right direction.

Meanwhile, Scuderi is gone, and that should help...
