At that point... time was more valuable than the points.

If that is really the thinking, they why run plays on 1st and 2nd down. I think that's the case if you're at the 20 or further, but not at the 10. Either way it's still a gift if you happen to recover the onside kick.

It's really a moot point either way. I'm sure they have some kind of stupid analytics that tell them their success rate at 60 seconds, 50 seconds, 40 seconds and so on. So, once they hit a certain time... they pulled the trigger on the FG.

His point is... you can make a kick from deeper than the you can score a TD... but the reality is... the time became more valuable than the points.

I think we're saying the same thing.

My point is... take your points. Make it a one score game, and to your point the Rams were running out of time with no timeouts. If the TD isn't going to happen easily down two scores, make it a one score game and hope for a fluky Hail Mary. And I think that's exactly what the Rams were hoping for. The onside kick had to happen regardless.

Let's be honest, it was a VERY slim chance the Rams pull it out at that point in the game anyway... but I think McVay was basically giving it the best odds/shot possible. Continuing to pass to try and get a TD (and potentially burn clock) while you know you needed to score twice, was a a waste of time. Better to get it within one, and allow some time for the homerun ball.

You probably put it best with "stupid analytics"....we all know that starts with anal, and that's kind of where I think they should shove those.

Just to be totally clear, I'm only putting in my opinion and McVay is no dummy. In fact he gets paid millions to coach and I get paid nothing to sit on my ass and critique...so there's that too

Does it really matter? You still gotta onside kick it and score again... it really doesn't matter what order it comes in. If you recover the onside kick maybe momentum shifts and your players think you actually stand a chance so they try harder?

Just speculating...
Plus you are in FG range so save the time for the potential TD drive.

The Dolphins were the better team on the night. They made fewer critical mistakes. The Rams offense didn't get in sync until late into the 3rd quarter and it's tough to overturn an 11 point deficit when potentially you only have 3 possessions left. 2 solid professional teams, but neither are contenders.

Calais Campbell thinks it’s just the beginning… I’ll believe it when I see it lol

“The mindset was, to start a wildfire, all you need is one spark. That spark happened to us today. Now, we have to keep blowing and blowing on it. It’s a short week but it doesn’t matter. We need the win, we’re hungry and we’re going to keep fighting for it.”

It's good to think positive I guess? Their schedule isn't bad moving forward, 3 tough games (Texans, Niners, Packers) and 5 easier matchups (Jets x2, Pats, Vegas, Browns). They'll need to sweep the assumed easy games and win at least 1 of the 3 tougher ones to have a shot at the playoffs with 9 wins.

On the other hand, the Dolphins have proven they are good at "blowing" it, lol.
