Doesn't seem like a great choice of team from a sporting perspective? Have Inter Miami ever been a contender?

Multiple factors. He's getting a great deal from Adidas and Apple to start with. Plus will have the option to own a team.

Turned down a boatload of Saudi cash. Good for him, the PGA should have done the same.

Happy to see Messi go to MLS, do not know much about Inter Miami team, but Messi should have a huge impact.

His childhood team here in Rosario, Newells Old Boys, always hopes he returns, but I doubt that happens.

My wife went to same elementary school as Messi... but over a decade earlier. School has small mural on wall for the famous student.

Bigger mural across the street from the school

Biggest mural is in the downtown

This city (especially "zona sur") loves Messi.

Amazing. Messi says no to $400 M a year to follow the Beckham approach

When you are already that rich you can turn down that kind of money because you already have far more than you want or need. It just adds to the pile

And he gets to live and work and train in a Hispanic heavy city much closer to Argentina than that weird desert country

And eventually start his own MLS club as part of deal. The Latin world is going to be pumped especially
