Jays play at AT&T in June....should be interesting. I'm a bit saddened by this.

So the question is:

Would 2/16 have been too much for us to spend on Melky?

I would have preferred dropping the second year (1/$8), which may be the reason why he signed with Toronto. It certainly isn't the tax rate.

We're slipping back into video game land here. Melky was never ever coming back, because the team didn't want him in their clubhouse, and management didn't want more bad steroid-related PR. End of story.

The final nail in the coffin was winning the WS without him. It's not like we fell short or did poorly without him, then maybe you build the case for needing him back.

We don't need him back, and the team doesn't want him back.

I am not sure at all about Melky. I kinda wanted him back, but not on a 2/16. I just can not get past his numbers pre-2011.

He was bad, man...

Yeah, reading in between the lines, it didn't sound like Posey was a big fan of both how Melky getting caught and his decisions after getting caught. I don't think Posey (obviously I don't have any empirical proof of this) wanted Melky to return.....now I don't think the organeyezation goes and asks for Posey's opinions, but I do think that his word carries weight (if that makes sense). Also, Andrew Baggarly had a good way of looking at it too, (paraphrased) "sometimes a kid doesn't want to go back to the store he got caught stealing from".

Regardless, thanks Melky for all you did to help the 2012 Giants get into the playoffs. No hard feelings here.

Random thoughts: I wonder how Posey would have gotten along with Bonds. My guess: not great. Very happy he is the face/leader of the franchise going forward.

2 Years, $16 million for Melky? I thought he'd get 1 year, $5 million + incentives. Shows what I know.

I don't think the penalties for drug use are steep enough. It wouldn't bother me one bit if it was one failed test & the player is gone from the game for good. 8M per for 2 years for another Ped user. I find it disgusting. I hope the Padres trade Grandal.

I think one and done may be too tough of punishment. As much as it may not seem likely, there are some banned substances that may be ingested unknowingly. I'd try and model it more in line with a "3 strikes" program with the penalties doled out as such:

1.) 81 Games*
2.) 162 Games*
3.) Bye bye

* Forfeiture of any awards and/or bonuses that may have been earned that season. If the Players Association has a problem with that, then they better come up with a much better/stricter drug testing policy.

and what if the MLBPA says "fuck you. We're good with the current program."

I'd prefer first time offenders be diverted to an education program where they can learn the safe and most effective use of PED, as well as the steps to take to avoid future detection. Similar to the program Ryan Braun went through.

I was going on a hypothetical scenario where 'I was in charge' or 'what I'd like to see' (if I ruled the world). I wasn't petitioning for anything. Like most unions I know of, I'm sure they would say what you said above.....except with worse language.....and I'd have a broken kneecap. :heh:

Now pay up on your monthly dues, it's past the 15th!!! ;)
