Pernell McPhee has informed the #Falcons that he plans to sign with the #Redskins, per a source. Not a certainty that the edge rusher will head to Washington, but it certainly looks that way.

Perhaps a part of why they withdrew Galettes offer

He's a beast when healthy. Been a while tho, since he's been able to consistently stay on the field.

Well, if he can play without PEDS and manage to stay healthy, I'd say we've gotten better at the spot.

As already mentioned... He can wreak havoc when on the field.

The problem has been getting him on the field.

Even if healthy, did we get better? I don’t think so.

Yes. He's a stud when healthy. Which was only about a 1/3 of the time in Chicago. Most games even when he was out there, he was dealing with something and relegated to a snap-count.

But...

He IS beastly

He has double digit sack upside. So, if he's being paid like a depth LB. You really can't lose. Even if he only plays 10 games or so. He should do enough to hit value on a contract like that.

We had Trent Murphy. He had 9 sacks in a reserve role.

Pernell McPhee has never had more than 7.5 sacks in a season. He turns 30 in December, has been in the league for seven full seasons, and had never sniffed 10 sacks. What makes you think he has that potential? He has had plenty of opportunity.

Yeah, this is not an upgrade, and he's another player with a history of injuries. So again, I gotta say... if the Skins have injury problems, they better not cry about it.

7.5 sacks in a reserve role is certainly (10 sack upside).

It should also be noted that McPhee isn't just a "pass rush specialist" either. He can play the run.

He had 5 sacks in his first 7 games in 2015 before getting hurt and playing through injury the rest of the way. Missing a game and being limited in most of his action during the second half.

2016 when he came back healthy for the second half

If you would have seen him in action every game the past few years. You'd know how disruptive he can be. I have no reason to go all "homer" over a player we just let walk.

So, just to be clear, a player who CAN play, is not better than one who couldn't because of health and another because he used PEDS? OK, got it!!:thumb:

Whatever dude. Trent Murphy had nine sacks in a reserve role. There is no reason to believe McPhee, at 30, would have 25% more sacks than any other season of his career to get to 10 on a season.
