You are right. The most likely scenario by a wide margin is they are going to release him. There will not be any trade offers. However, they may wait until the last possible moment to do that. Primarily because teams such as Dallas and Philly may not wait and fill their vacancies with others before the beginning of the 2016 league year.Being objective - why in the hell would a team keep a player who likely won't play for $16M while creating unnecessary locker room drama? That makes no sense. It also hardly makes any sense for RG3 to rework a deal when he can simply wait for a few months to go wherever he likes. Heck - he waited all of last season - a few more months is not going to kill him. Option # 2 also doesn't really make sense.
I agree with you about exploring a possible trade for a late pick - why not? However - don't really see this happening & in the grand scheme of things I think the impact is relatively minimal. I think permanently removing the related drama is worth much more than a 6th or 7th round pick.
