McD turns down 49ers HC job

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Patriots OC Josh McDaniels is bowing out of consideration for the 49ers' head-coaching vacancy.

According to La Canfora, McDaniels is taking his name out of consideration for "personal" reasons, and it's "not a reflection" on the 49ers. It's probably a little bit of both. With New England advancing this deep into the playoffs, the San Francisco job is the only one left open. McDaniels is better off riding it out another year with Tom Brady and Co. and seeing what next offseason brings. Kyle Shanahan and Tom Cable are the other two known candidates linked to the 49ers.

Belichik probably told McDaniels that he is retiring after this season win or lose and the Pats HC job is soon to be available.

Probably not that complicated. He realized the only job left was the Niners, and he was the only one pursuing it. I would expect Shanahan to bow out as well.

Yes, Mcdaniels probably will stay in New England. Belichek's 65 in April so retirement could be on his mind especially with Brady turning 40 in August. Got to think Mcdaniel's the Patriots next coach.

Worse case scenario for 49ers fans is that Shanahan bows out as well leaving Tom Cable as the only other candidate that's been interviewed. Needless to say....a LOT riding on that decision.
