Pitt got nothing, because SF has nothing.

Jesus this is an really bad deal for them.

But I do like the idea in the article of playing Cutch in RF and using the speedy guys in CF.

Reportedly, none of the “big 3” are involved in this deal, so basically, I am AOK with the trade.

Apparently, Crick is heading to Pit. Kinda sucks to lose him, but I am fine with him being part of this trade.

I hope we didn't give up the farm for him.

I would be OK with Reynolds and Crick. But anything more than that and it starts getting a bit steep...

Man, I would be pissed right now if I were a Pirates' fan. The FO seemed to place their franchise faces in the bargain bin located out front of the store.

Also, $2.5M coming back from the Bucs to the Giants, leaving us about $10M below the tax. LoCain 5/50?

You think Cain will settle for 10 million for a 5 year deal?

Also, it sounds like the Giants are sending 500,000 in international pool money to the Pirates. Seems that the international front is not changing for the Giants.

The Giants are capped at $300K per signing this period and have signed 26 guys already.

You know.... not that mad about this. Pretty good deal. If the reports are true that he's moving to a corner spot, even better.

I've been working on my top-prospects the last couple of weeks, here's what I had on Reynolds:

"5. Bryan Reynolds (OF) - "Good bat-to-ball skills. Solid power. Solid speed. Plays CF, RF and LF with solid defense. Switch-hitter with a good feel for both sides".... I feel like that describes an absolutely perfect 4th outfielder, no? Sure Reynolds may never become an all-star but having a guy off the bench that can fill in any situation is extremely useful. Need a late-game pinch hitter? This guy can come in and neutralize a specialty reliever. Your LFer needs a day off? This guy can start in his place. The CFer gets hurt mid game? This guy can slide over from LF. I think once you look past his limitations (not a good enough defender for CF, not enough power for a corner), you see a player that is actually incredibly useful. After a slow start to the season, hit .334/.381/.508 from May 14 onward. I'm most curious to see if the new Giants' farm personnel have an effect on him and his swing. I think if he makes an adjustment he can tap into a lot more power, though at the expense of the contact the former Giants' farm regime favored."

I had assumed that the money was coming from the next signing period, with this one winding down (although I have to admit I don't know the exact date this current period ends). I also had no idea that the Giants signed that many guys. Where'd you get that from?

I think this period ends on July 1st, then the next period begins on July 2nd. Most of the signings happen on the 2nd or sometime that week (usually because most of these guys have deal in place well before the 2nd but technically that's against the rules).

List (actually 23 not 26):

Ivan Armstrong
Rodolfo Bone
Jose Cruz
Alvaro Ferreras
Jesus Gomez
Robert Gomez
Cesar Gonzalez
Jose Hernandez
Richgelon Juliana
Jesus Liscano
Luis Montero
Freddery Paulino
Jean Pena
Jose Peralta
Yohan Polanco
Samuel Quintana
Randy Rodriguez
Yorlis Rodriguez
Juan Sanchez
Carlos Sano
Luis Toribio
Sonny Vargas
Leonard Vilchez

A number have already been reported from the Giants:

Transactions

Others I've gotten from various sources

Well, credit where it's due, the Giants seem to be actually trying this year. I'm more optimistic than I was after they missed on Stanton
