So I just listened to the audio again with fresh ears and to me it sounds like a high school party. Malkin introduces Talbot to Ovie. Talbot is really cool in his little click of guys but not as well known in the school overall and not seen as one of the "in" crowd. Ovie brushes him off, and Talbot gets mad because he was ignored or belittled. He decides that instead of confronting Ovie face to face, he will go back to his click (Pittsburgh) and talk about it what a jerk "that guy" is. He knows that "that guy" is not well liked in his click anyway so it is harmless. Now we will see if he is going to go face to face with him on the ice.

If I were to guess, Ovie will have forgotten about it by the time they play and the game will go as usual, but who knows. I live in Pittsburgh, so I know the cult of Talbot. he is a good player too and adds a lot to the team. He is not some scrub. However, his national rep is not that big, and maybe Ovie just really did not recognize him clean shaven and dressed for the party. I mean, would Geno recognize David Steckel? Talbot is to Pittsburgh what Matt Bradley is to Washington. They both score timely goals in important situations and fight the fights that move momentum.

As for calling the guy a douche....that is kind of played as an insult, and a bit teen idolesque, but whatever, it was on a morning radio show on the modern rock station so you know....cater to your audience.


As for some of the flack that Ovie is getting for not being at the ceremony...that is just plain ridiculous. He lives in Russia. It is not just a 2 or 3 hour flight to Pittsburgh. Also, this is the Penguins gig. It is in Pittsburgh and the Pens are the ones who will be doing the most promotion for it. If it was in DC, you can bet Ovie would have been there.

I do not know if he is taking flack on the national level. I just heard a lot of crap being spewed his way on the sports station (the fake contrived new one) this morning and some last night on Stillers365 where they were talking about it. The 1250 stuff seemed innocent ribbing, the 93.7 crap seemed to be making a big deal out of it, but lets be honest....most of those guys are not even from Pittsburgh and know as much about hockey as Tiger Woods.



I am loving the fire being fueled this early though.

its funny how the radio guys said to talbot at the start of the interview that they wanted to interview him instead of crosby since they know they would get PC responses back from Crosby.

Talbot spoke his mind with some colourful language ... if Ovechkin feels besmirched he can fuck Talbot up on the ice ... those are always good times ... Id rather see Ovechkin do something like that than hear him say something like "talbots hands are shaking"

Ovechkin is 6'2" 233lbs

Chara is 6'9" 255lbs

Gill is 6'7" 241lbs


That is a big difference is body design.

He's not bullet-proof. Many players with the same build and physical style as Ovie have met their match over the years. Some of the time, he's so intent on lowering the boom on guys, he does it to himself.
