Breaking just now.

I don't think Harvey could possibly make the Reds worse, but the Mets did improve their catching situation, at least until Mesoraco gets hurt again.

Mets sent Harvey to arguably the most hitter friendly park in the NL and one of the worst teams in baseball.

Let’s see how your ego handles that, Batman.

Mets certainly don't care about that

Losing Mesoraco was not a big issue since he's a FA at year's end. I think the Reds could have held out for a better return from a team that was begging for a catcher. Maybe the Mutts don't have anybody.

Harvey will suck on a team that scores a lot of runs and manages to go through pitchers like shit through a goose.

He's pitching for a contract, so there's that. His ERA in Cincy will be around 7.5.

Mesoraco's been pretty mediocre in the little time he's been on the field over the last four years. Even in AA last year, he batted .170/.291/.255 albeit in 55 PA. It looks more and more unlikely he'll replicate that 2014 success. Even without the injuries, it's hard to get excited about a guy with a lifetime BABIP of .262 especially when he hasn't been able to flash power outside of 2014.

I don't see this trade making either team much better (if at all), though I could see Harvey being a pretty decent reliever.

The Reds really can't be any worse and if they get lucky and Harvey improves by the end of the year they may be able to flip him for prospects to a playoff team that needs an end of the rotation guy. If he continues to suck he's a free agent anyway.
