I guess BQ won't be going after much more in FA with a 13M cap hit from M. Jones in 2016. Get high amount of guarantees out of the way in 2016 and it reduces next 2-3 yrs as we have the cap space this year. I won't agree with that but it's a tell BQ has lower tier level guys as plans for DE's, LB, SS and one extra CB.

This FA class isn't all that much to choose from anyways.

I would think once Illoka was out of reach that 2106 Cap for Jones came into play according to what they already had plans for in FA, which isn't all that much now.

I dont agree. That was just the CJ money. I think we have 1 or maybe even 2 moves left. The WR was a must because this years draft sucks for that position. That is the absolute minimum I expected. Smith is still out there. I would be ecstatic (in my best Mike Tyson voice) if all we got was him too. Weddle might be in the cards too. That would tap us out at that point though.

I'd rather pay up front than push the money backwards like Mayhew and the Drunk liked to do.

Id rather our defense get better rather than another toy for Stafford.

Maybe the next GM...
I'm hoping they use the draft for that. I don't mind the signing, they now have tate and Jones signed for 14.2 million a year for the next 4, I believe and CJ would have been 16.9 himself.

I really hope they go defense early and often in the draft.

I think that's the cap hit this year and not their salary. (The 13 million for jones)
Teams spread around the money based on years they should have more available.
That's just a guess though as I get lost on the cap stuff at times

Marvin Jones is showing a $6.6 million hit this year as of now. That $13 million somebody spoke of is showing as dead money if he was released. Not saying OTC has correct yet, but that's what is howing. So when I see it, I read the two combined are $13.7 this season.

Prolly best to give Spotrac and OTC a day or two before we hold BQ to the fire.

I get confused by all of that. The Sportrac guy who spoke on CBS mentioned the average cost for the two averaged out to 14.2 and Calvin would be 16.9 himself over the next 4

Not sure how they came up with it, but it seems like it would open up some money, even after signing Jones

I'm not big the average of the deals. I like the concrete numbers of the cap hits. That's just me.

Suh had a $6 million hit last year and a $450 million per year average.

The article said he got an 8 million signing bonus, 2 million roster bonus and 3 million salary for the upcoming season.

So I think the 6.6 is spot on what you said. The 5 million counts toward this year and 8 million spread over 5 years is 1.6 a year.

Marvin Jones - WR - Lions
Lions placed WR Marvin Jones on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported four days ago that Jones had a "chance" to return in Week 13 but instead the Lions are ending his season. Jones had already missed Weeks 11 and 12. In the third year of a five-year deal, Jones was having an inconsistent campaign in the Lions' once-crowded receiver corps. His 56 yards per game were down 13 from 2017. Jones' loss coupled with Golden Tate's trade leaves the Lions embarrassingly thin at wide receiver behind Kenny Golladay. Expect some #BruceEllingtonSZN down the stretch. Golladay, meanwhile, will find himself on the WR1/2 borderline. Going on 29, Jones should be back at his $6.5 million salary for 2019, though coach Matt Patricia fancies himself a ground-and-pound maestro. The Lions have sucked since letting Suh go.
