As of right now, if AJ was injured we have Gio and Eifert as the 1A and 1B options as Receivers. Hill has proven that he can catch a pass. Both Hill and Gio can run the ball. Tate can catch a few passes. I have no hope in Wright being worth anything in 2016 coming off of Micro-fracture surgery. Alford's 2nd season is a complete mystery, but I don't think he's a Slot Receiver. More along the style of the routes Jones ran, and is the current favorite to win that job. But, if we get the kid from TCU, we can plug him in as the Starter from Day 1.

We'll also be in the 2nd season of a few Rookie TE's that we had last season, such as Kraft, who might make a few catches, too.

Burkhead and Hewitt can also run routes effectively.

That's not 'pretty scary.' It's extremely scary. As much as you don't want to overpay for a guy, I would have liked to resign him. Realistically, we were 1 late season injury from our most significant SB shot in 30 years.

I really don't trust mgmt's ability to sign a replacement as talented or find a year 1 contributor in the draft.

The tough part is that it seems like they were serious about signing Marvin (if you believe Hobs).... So they were willing to give him near 8 million. If that's the case, they really couldn't do anything more. Offering even more than that would have been crazy.

If they really were willing to pay that much for Jones, then they really have no excuse (except for their irrational fear of losing out on a possible 3rd round comp pick) to go out and sign a veteran receiver.

We're not going after any veteran receivers. The last one we signed was TO...who got run out of town after being our most productive receiver.

If we don't find someone, Andy's production is drastically going to drop. As much as we try to downplay how good Sanu and Jones are, they a HELL of a lot better than Brendan Tate and Rex Burkhead.

Besides, have you seen some of the F/A WR's? I mean, Jones was at the top of the list and he's not really done a shit ton while here. I mean, it would have been great to keep him, but it's not like he was setting the world on fire. This is a very, very weak F/A class of WRs.
