Didn't expect that. Better there than Cleveland.

Glad it's an NFC team....

I don't suspect this ends well for him. On the one hand, a receiver tandem of Tate and Jones should work pretty well with Matthew Stafford. They might put up decent yards. On the other hand, that team was inconsistent last year, they play in a division with a couple of teams that should be successful over the next few years, and they are one losing record away from replacing their coach and possibly their quarterback.

he's not going to be able to live up to an 8 million dollar a year salary, he's going to have to play the injured card at some point.

sucks to be a Lions fan.

I wanted him back, but at that price I'm glad the Bengals didn't bite.

I was thinking on that yesterday. Stafford gets a lot of yards, but that's always been because he's had Megatron...just like Dalton and Green. Stafford has never been an accurate thrower downfield....no better than Dalton. He has more strength in his throws, but they aren't any more accurate. And, we're talking about two organizations that struggle at the top. Detroit isn't as bad as Cleveland, but it's pretty close. There are some signs of improvement in both.

Cleveland will get a QB with the #2 pick, and a Rookie who will struggle, especially after losing Alex Mack, but they also have the #1 LT, a top RG, a system that he already knows, and outdoor turf (doesn't hurt as much to land on, but harder to get your footing on cuts...Detroit is where Ki-Jana ruined his career before it started).

I thought Marvin Jones would get more money. I think Detroit got a bargain.

Hobs claims that the Bengals offered similar money to keep Jones, but he wanted out.... Wants to be more of a top dog.

If true, I think the dude might be an idiot. He had a pretty nice gig here and would have been assured to be productive with the current offense.

And I know that the general consensus of the board is that it isn't smart to pay either Jones or Sanu big bucks, but I am worried about our receivers. If AJ misses a few games, we could end up starting Mario, Wright, and Tate. That's pretty scary. Or it forces us to take receiver in the first or second round - Maybe one of the top guys drops and that works out for us. But given the light FA market, there could be a run on the top talent long before we pick.

It's definitely a gamble on his part. Signing a contract with MB basically means the whole thing is guaranteed. This organization almost never cuts players on long term deals.

Still, he's 25 and will be the #1 target for a strong armed QB. He gets to play his home games in a dome. He's still young enough that he can set him self up for a huge 3rd contract in his 20s if everything plays out right. I'm not a scout but I wouldn't be shocked if he turns out to be a legitimate #1 type WR in Detroit. Not at the AJ Green level but like Jeremy Maclin has been the past few seasons

Eifert needs to be extended soon. If he stays healthy he'll be the highest paid TE in football. Paying elite #1 WR money to Green, elite #2 WR money to Jones and elite TE money to Eifert takes up too much cap space for one area of the team. I wouldn't have lost sleep if he re-signed here but I'd rather take a flier on a vet and draft one early

My concern is that Eifert is made of glass and probably should be counted on for maybe 75% of any given season. I get what you're saying about the cap though - You can't spend too much on one group. But we do need to find some talent in the draft.

He hasn't been durable, but if he plays like he did last year I think he has to be re-signed. He was the biggest factor in Daltons improvement. 1st rd WR is a luxury with AJ Green on the team but the way this roster is built right now I wouldn't have an issue with it

Re-signing Iloka and Pacman definitely bolstered the defense.... I think it made it more probable that we'll spend our high picks on the offensive side.

Hobs said on the radio last night that the three WR to "get something out of":

- James Wright
- Mario Alford
- Jake Kumerow

He said that in addition to a rookie. Sure hope there is a vet WR worth a shit that gets cut. Otherwise...Armon Binns 2.0 in the works.

He basically blamed the shitty signings of Coles, Bryant and TO on their fear of signing a FA WR

Terrell Owens was very good for us, he had great statistics in receiving and scores, he just also led the league in alligator arming perfectly thrown passes if he though someone was going to hit his aging body.

Another case where a #2 WR thinks he's a #1.

Jones is good, but he never really stood out consistently, and had a lot of help on offense with teams more concerned about AJ and Tyler.

Marvin Jones got #2WR money in this contract. #1WR money would have been several more million per year.

In Detroit he'll get the chance to put up the numbers that can earn him WR1 money in his next contract. That opportunity wasn't available in Cincinnati.

That's not 'pretty scary.' It's extremely scary. As much as you don't want to overpay for a guy, I would have liked to resign him. Realistically, we were 1 late season injury from our most significant SB shot in 30 years.

I really don't trust mgmt's ability to sign a replacement as talented or find a year 1 contributor in the draft.
