The success of Palmer, Ochojohnson and Houshmanzadeh has long since passed.
I am AMAZED he was able to ride that wave as long as he did.

The early years were a lot of fun. And I think he did a very underrated job of getting the team back to relevance (and built the right way - less thugs) in 2011..... The Bengals were supposed to be in the toilet that year, but he built a team that competed for the postseason for 5 straight years. He's just not a big game coach. If he would have left after the 2015 debacle, I think we'd all have better memories of him. These last three years have been painful.

Agreed. What he did was amazing all things considering.

But, his big game follies coupled with a front office that refuses to spend money to fill needed gaps when the window is open just lessens the impact and probability of this team ever being a true contender.

To me, this is what doesn't get discussed enough..... The roster they built in 2015 should have been given a better chance to succeed. The Bengals convinced themselves that they could continuously build through the draft and it would provide enough depth to sustain their success. But they lost too many key parts (Jones, Sanu, Whit, Zeitler, Adam Jones was getting old, Reggie Nelson) and didn't develop replacements fast enough.
