4 goals against on 8 shots in the 1st period.

Including 2 SHG's and a goal from ERIC FREAKIN BOULTON

Schneider trade looking awfully good right now.

I'd be more concerned with Clowe playing 30 seconds, getting hit and not coming back.....

Marty has been bad. 2 weak goals and the Boulton giveaway.

He's not getting much help though. the Zid-Merrill pairing has been awful. need to break it up for 2nd period

2 quickies by Zids and Merrill..guess splitting them up helped.

Not sure what pairings were together when they scored. Saw Merrill with Severson and Zid with Salvador, and then back together again to give up another poor odd-man rush on the pp.

Edit: they're just winging it. Merrill with Salvador now and Merrill with Gelinas earlier.

Yeah I guess PDB is trying out different combos.

Gelinas continues to impress though no matter who he's lined up with. 2 more helpers tonight. Making a strong case for the opening night roster.

I really doubt if Marty takes preseason very seriously. I don't think he's had any reason to take preseason seriously in about 19 or so years.

I'm not worried about it, pretty sure Marty always mails it in during the preseason. Clowe apparently has a charlie horse, nothing serious according to TG.

Still...preseason or not, you basically should be playing strong considering the "next man up" is ready to take your starts asap....

but i didn't see the game, looking at the box score and i'm like...wtf....

Good to read that Gelinas is playing well and importantly Zids sucks again... getting closer to kicking him out!

How was the Olesz goal? was Ryder playing?

Gelinas had a very strong game, playing the most minutes and having a lot of time on the power play. He has the rocket shot he used often but also mixed in some slower wristers that were able to make it through the traffic. He also rushed the puck up the ice regularly, which is surprising given his size. He was also mobing on the PP which created chances. He could have been more physical though.

Zid and Merrill were all offense and poor defense. They were paired together on the PP a lot in the 1st and gave up 3 goals against while on the PP. Mostly from poor defensive play from Merrill and Zid being out of the play. Merrill was better when paired with other players though and became slightly below average as the game moved on.

Severson had a quiet game without being challenged too much and not really doing much offensively. Average it seemed.

Salvador seemed very slow. He was, however, the only guy who was playing the body. Overall slightly below average.

On Offense,

The Olesz goal was a typical Clarkson goal where the puck deflected off his ass while he was blocking the goalie. He played the way a good 3rd/4th liner would play. Being phyiscal, getting in people's way, and not trying to push anything offensively.

Zubrus was the best forward. He just played like he always does. Excellent along the boards but didn't have much help from linemates. He seemed in mid-season form.

Josefson did well, he was active along the boards and played well defensively. He had atleast 1 weak shot but didn't provide much offensively.

Tedenby was all over but not creating much offense.

Ryder played and was invisible all game. He came as advertised where he's doing nothing when he's not scoring goals.

Brunner was awful. He played like Ryder but made a few huge mistakes which led to goals in the first period.

The awful first is all from really bad defensive play by Zid and Merrill and very poor play from Marty. Offense really sucked as well outside of Zubrus. Even the forwards who played well didn't contribute much offensively.

Bah, it was a weird game. Two SH 2-1s that came out of nowhere. Boulton on a breakaway coming out of the box. Zid cleared a puck from the side of the net right into the traffic in the crease and trickled in. The 5th goal took a bounce off a broken stick at center ice and sprung the isles for a breakaway. We definitely out chanced them. Just one of those games.

I thought all three young D-men, Gelinas, Merrill, and Severson were good to great. Gelinas being the best. This Severson kid is a really, really slick skater.

Greene was on for one of those. Source: I was 6 rows behind Marty. haha.

Marty always seems to give up goals to enforcers. No big deal. Just preseason.

PDB wasn't happy after the game. He actually mentioned Ryder as one of the bright spots.

Watching the game was like watching our team from last year, no D and horrible PP which lead to the SHG. It wasnt Marty that was off

“Lots of goals, not many shots,” Brodeur said of the first period. “Not the way you’d like to start the preseason. I kind of came back in the second and felt a little better –* less shots, less breakdowns.”

PDB also said it's tough to assess players because the game was a mess.

I think "breakdowns" sums it up. Every 2 minutes this the team was breaking down in the first. Oh! But one player you can assess? Gelinas! two games and he looked fairly OK yesterday and great on monday

Per the main board, there is a new rule that states you cannot remove helmets prior to a fight but if they come off during the fight there is no penalty. Barch and Gallant found a loophole.
