An interesting report just said that the Cubs primary targets this winter were Martin & Lester... Now that Martin is gone, their main focus is on Lester. If signing Lester becomes a bidding war, when do you stop and just shift towards the better and more expensive Scherzer?

Would it be weird if the consolation for the loser of Lester is Scherzer?

Is Scherzer really better? Especially for more money?

I think whoever gets him...regrets it fast.

Scherzer also costs a pick, while Lester does not.

That certainly factors into the calculus.

I think Cubs or Braves.

LOL!! I wish, but we cant bid with the big boys since Ted decided to sell. Only thing we got going for us is Lester just bought a house in Georgia.

Yeah, Scherzer's way better but I won't argue with Boston trying to get Lester back.

Not seeing it. Give me Lester for cheaper and no pick lost

The braves want an ace and are willing to trade J-Up to make room

Why are we going after all this pitching??? Pitching isn't our problem it's our hitting. WE need contact hitters.

Michael Kay said on his radio show that he prefers Lester & Shields over Scherzer. Reason is he don't think Scherzer will be worth a long term deal because once his velocity goes, he won't be that good of a pitcher

WE need hitters.

Fixed. A contact hitter isn't going to help much if he doesn't draw walks and can't hit for any power (i.e. Ben Revere).

Yup and while he had a great CY Young season and was good again this year I think Lester has been around longing and already shown maintained consistency.

Lester also had a great year last year and is very, very good in the post season with loads of experience in it while Scherzer has been pedestrian. Lester is also accustomed to pitching in a hitters ball park.

With a good young team and a good manager, they add a few guys like this and they'll be contenders,.
