I wonder if Tenn is using a lot of plays that are similar to Oregon's playbook there close to the goal line. Mariota has that quick, accurate release and is just picking apart TB near the goal line. Very impressive debut for Marcus.

Wow. What a debut.

It's very early, obviously, but I saw nothing to change my view that MM will pan out and Jameis will bust.

I don't know about Oregon plays but he took a lot of snaps out of the shotgun so that's at least more comfortable for him right now.

Interesting stat: As a starter, Jameis Winston has lost only once in college and only once in the NFL.

Both times to Marcus Mariota. /rekt

It's just usually a bad idea to spend the #1 pick on a QB who you know is an idiot. How often has that worked out for teams? I know there's a lot of idiots in the NFL that you don't hear about, but a college kid has to go above and beyond to get that label given how hard they try to sweep all that crap under the rug.

I think its important not to overreact to one game. There is a good chance that the Titans are a 7-10 win team and Lovie Smith is fired by week 4. I dont think that means both guys have their careers set in stone to go in different directions.

I think 10 is a bit of a stretch opposing teams should have enough film on Mariota by mid-season for the decent teams like New Orleans and even Carolina to beat them. Indy and Houston should be good enough to spilt with them if not take both games outright. The Pats will probably roll them, and if the Bills play like they did today they should over come them as well. I think they likely lose 2 or 3 of the next 4 games. However, 6-8 wins is very possible providing they can keep the kid healthy.

1999-2008 the Titans first ten years in Tennessee they were in the top ten overall in NFL wins. People seem to forget Tennessee is nowhere near the level that Cleveland,Jacksonville,Washington,Oakland,Tampa,Buffalo, etc. have been the last fifteen years sure the last few seasons have been tough but since they came to Tenn the team has never went over three seasons without having a winning season afterward. The team went 13-3 in 2008,8-8 in 2009,6-10 in 2010 and 9-7 in 2011. 2012 through 2014 the last three years have been tough due to not having a franchise QB but now the team has one again. Since '99 every Titans franchise QB has had a winning record except Locker. Both McNair and VY had winning records overall. The Titans are on their fourth franchise first rounder with Mariota. Since '99 its been McNair/VY/Locker/Mariota.

I'd be very happy with 9-7/8-8 and avoiding a losing season.

Mariota looks like the real deal. The kid shows great poise under pressure.

All i can say is thank you Tampa Bay from the bottom of my heart. If i were a fan there i'd be pissed and demand that the GM and head coach be sent packing. I wouldn't doubt Lovie Smith wasn't a big factor behind the choice after all Lovie has never had a good QB and his bread and butter is defense which by the way sucked as well in week one.

Bucs had first dibs on any QB or player they wanted. Also if you remember they tanked the last game of the season pulling starters when they were winning. Crazy thing is it didn't do them any good. If you saw all the off the field trouble Winston had, losing the bowl game to Mariota, then you had Mariota do better at the combine, etc. All signs pointed to Mariota being better plus Mariota had no off the field stuff. WOW is all i can say.

Now i'm reading that Mariota just might eventually be in the top tier with Brady,Manning,Rodgers,Luck, etc. Very first game the guy is breaking 50 year old records. He had a perfect passer rating very first AND threw four TD's something no rookie QB has ever done in his first game. Mariota made the cover of Sports Illustrated and won NFL offensive player of the week not bad for a debut. 13 of 16 passes completed and 4TD's through the first week Mariota is the number one QB in the league.

Seriously if i were a Buc fan i'd be livid. However i'm a Titans fan and have been since day one in 1999. I have stuck with this team through great 1999-2008 and very bad meaning the last four terrible years with Jake Locker one of the worst QB's i ever watched he had no pocket presence, zero accuracy and more injury prone than my grandmother.

McNair is considered the best Titan QB in history and ultimately the benchmark for Mariota if he becomes a long term starter. I've already been told to fasten my seat belt its gonna be a hell of a ride........
