Ichiro Hoping To Make Mariners' Roster In 2019

• Although he shifted from the diamond to a front office role with the Marinerslast month, Ichiro Suzuki intends to earn a roster spot with the team in 2019, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports. Given that the future Hall of Famer has struggled in recent seasons (a productive 2016 with Miami notwithstanding) and will be 45 when next spring rolls around, accomplishing his goal seems like a long shot. But with the Mariners scheduled to open next season with a series against the A’s in Ichiro’s homeland of Japan, it’s worth a try.

I'd be ok with him getting one AB in Japan or something like that, but jesus dude. You had a great and long career. It's over. It's always sad to see the greats that are in denial.

Ya, in a round about way it is kind of a slap in the face to American fans. He gets a goodbye in Japan but didn't have an announced last game in Seattle where fans could show up to show their appreciation for his greatness, even though alot fans have ill feelings towards him during his later years in Seattle.

That was a hell of a shot by Cruiz. They came in playing a bit with house money anyway already guaranteeing at least a split series. We will see what they can do with the later innings today, but otherwise off on the road trip they go.

It would be great to see a legit stud #2 SP on this team pitching between Paxton and Gonzo. Leake is a #3 or 4 at best. Innings guy, but no ability to put top hitters away. A good guy to have on the team at the end of the rotation.

I know #2's don't grow on trees and we don't have anything to give up one for in mid season.

And I think those believing Heredia should be an everyday play understand now why that just can't be. You can't have that bad of a swing and not have the law of averages catch up with you when you play more. Still a good 4th OF, but not much more than that.
