I was watching the NHL network last night and there was talk about Marian Gaborik's potential to be trade bait come either the trade deadline or during the summer. I thought it was interesting because I hadn't really thought of it being a possibility. So far this season he only has 16 goals and 18 assists, so compared to last year he is well under what his average should be when healthy. What does everyone else think?

I really don't see how they're gonna trade him. He still has 2 more years on the contract at $7.5mil and a NTC.

As a player couldn't you waive your NTC?

The Rags are 4 points ahead of 9th place in the East, and currently in the bottom half in goals for and bottom quartile in PP. Why would they trade Gaborik? It makes no sense.

I think the point the commentators were trying to make is less about the trade deadline as it is for the team moving forward and through the summer. I got the impression that the commentary itself was regarding Gaborik's low production this year and possible issues between him and Torts.

I could see him getting moved at the draft, when teams have cap space and high expectations for next season.
