Sure but also factor in NIL. Don’t a lot of mid majors lose talent to the top programs?

That is more transfer portal IMO, or the combination of both.

Sure.

But don’t think that has anything to do with what I was saying.

Right, meant transfer portal. But aren't the top seeds presumably the 'better' teams? That's what the regular season is, right?

Of course.

Like I said, seeding is what they accomplished in the regular season.

Just because George Mason went to the Final 4 that one year doesn’t mean they should have been a 1 seed.

Just because Virginia lost to a 16 doesn’t mean they didn’t deserve to be a 1.

Exaggerated examples, but I think you get my point.

At least I hope….

I think we’re saying the same thing this is what I meant by the committee getting it right

Depends on the flip side.

Are you saying the committee got it wrong when the top seeds don’t advance?

Yes you can. Most of the upsets are of the #12 beating a #5...something along those lines, You don't get a whole lot of 1 and 2 seeds getting beat. And even if a couple of them get beat, there are typically still plenty of higher seeds available.

5/12 games are so popular to pick upsets that it's almost not an upset but more of a known seeding deficiency.

Not a deficiency.

Just very small margin separating these teams.

When was the last time the final 4 was all 1 seeds?

Looked it up, only happened once, ever, in 2008

The committee didn't get Michigan's seeding right. They were tied for second in the Big10 and won the conference tournament. Yet all three teams they beat in the Big10 tourney, one they were tied with and two that finished below them in the regular season, were given better NCAA tournaments seeds than they received.

I agree that they get most of them right, but this one and giving North Carolina a play in spot were wrong (there may have been others).

North Carolina won 2 games.

And we’re in the top 30 in a couple key metrics.

That one doesn’t look bad at all.

Kind of picking nits here, when the Elite 8 was 4 1s, 3 2s, and a 3, and only the 2nd all 1s Final 4 ever, not to mention only one double digit seed in the Sweet 16. They nailed it.

North Carolina won their play in game and got curb stomped in the first round. They were behind Indiana in every metric, but the ACC couldn't have just 3 teams in the tournament. The 3 of 4 teams lost in the first round. It also looks bad because the selection committee chair is the AD of North Carolina; you can't go against the numbers in a situation like that.

Yes, picking nits. They got the top seeds right.
But nailed it means everything correct.

Whoa whoa.

Ok, I was wrong. They only won the play in.

But they did not get curb stomped. They lost by 7.

And like I said, there was a legit case to be made for them to be in the field. This isn’t an open and shut case.

And of course the ACC should have more than 3 teams. I don’t care how far down they are.
