It appears that Fleury may be in Bylsma's doghouse early in the year. I saw some discussion here about maybe starting Johnson at home Friday against the Islanders and then going back to Fleury Saturday in Philly.

According to the Post-Gazette there is a real chance that Johnson may get both starts.....

"Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said backup goaltender Brent Johnson will start Friday night at home against the New York Islanders, but he would not commit to going back to No. 1 goalie Marc-Andre Fleury for Saturday's game at Philadelphia.

The Penguins are playing three games in four nights, so it is not unusual for Johnson to get a start, but he has fared better in his one game, a 3-1 win Monday at New Jersey with 31 saves, than Fleury has in the Penguins' other games.

Fleury is 0-3 with a 3.41 goals-against average and an .853 save percentage."

Now maybe this is just Bylsma trying to get Fleury's attention and wake him up....I don't know....I still see Marc Andre starting Saturday in Philly...

At this point, you play the hot goalie... if Johnson performs well tomorrow, he should start on Saturday. If he plays well on Saturday, start him on Monday...

Play the hot goalie.

Well that answers it then...because Fleury is colder than a witches teat in a brass bra....bring on Johnson!...

It doesn't piss me off. Seriously brother of Pens-fanhood, you took my comment personally...and it wasn't directed at you. Sorry if it seemed that way (and apparently it did). My thing is that I will defend my player when deserved...my point was that fans (these being people in that chat on the online feed I watched the games on) blame every single goal on him. There were people who sincerely said pull Fleury after the first goal...these people were also saying that the season was over and the team crap because of this one goal. I know MAF's ability and that it's very awesome...he just needs ONE solid game to get him on a roll...and it does NOT help that his D has been porous and injured. I really don't have a crush on him...I don't find him attractive. I just remember what he meant to this team in the Cup run. There were 2 games in the Philly series where he was the reason we won...at least 2 in the Wash series where he was a huge part of it...and Det? He saved game 6 and 7 in the final ticks (with help from Mr. Scuderi)

Does it really matter who starts in goal against the Islanders? Crosby & Malkin usually have their best games of the year against the Isles.

Have you seen the Pens play yet this year?....nothing to be taken for granted here...very disappointing so far

Fleury let in two terrible goals against Montreal, but that's about it. The other goals he let in have been the usual deflections, screen shots, or just great plays by the opposition. As an elite goaltender, he should stop more of those, but it was the team as a whole, not Fleury, who lost to Philly and Toronto.

That said, I'd start Johnson against the Islanders, and Fleury against the Flyers. If Fleury plays well, he keeps playing, otherwise he alternates with Johnson. But I wouldn't let Johnson get consecutive starts unless Fleury really starts to shit the bed, which he hasn't yet.

I am much more of a casual fan so what I say doesnt hold much merit these days but I just think of what MAFis making, he just doesnt pull his weight enough. Yes, he has played lights out sometimes and especially in a few playoff series and I know that is very important. I am just not a huge fan of his. I dont hate the kid by any means. He is a good goalie, and the Pens D has issues but I just wish he would play to his potential consistently.

Have you seen the Islanders lineup? They have career minor leaguer P.A. Parenteau on the 1st line.:L I'd say 90% of the fanbase wants him off the team & that number might actually be low.:D
