Without thinking about it too deeply, I'm wondering if we have had many free agents who have made traction after signing with us? Justin and Brooks, yes. Franklin was pretty good. Clements and Whitner were ok. The WRs all seemed to flameout, some in more spectacular fashion than others. Overall, we haven't got a whole lot out of our free agents, it has been mostly homegrown talent (and a couple decent trades as well).
Queue Deep philosophizing on signing free agents versus drafting talent in 3, 2...

I feel bad about this news. Patton was a bit confused during the last game, not knowing where to line up or which routes to run during certain defensive looks. I like Patton but at this point of their career, he's a downgrade from Mario.

Agreed and mentally, I dont think Patton has the game down yet. It's a little disappointing because we're entering week 17 and he has had an injury this yr where he could focus 100% on studying. I'm not expecting too much production from Patton.

Boldin has probably been our mvp this season. I'm also hoping they sign him for another two seasons.

I know Osgood is getting up there in age... (32 or 33?) But what I never noticed about him till he caught his first pass last week was how tall he is. Obviously we could use some speed at the WR position, but he is a veteran that might be able to produce for us in manninghams absence if Patton or Baldwin can't.

I was responding to him saying that all of our wr free agent signings have flamed out. I think at times a stopgap free agent is better than trying to develop a rookie, especially in a Super Bowl window.
Also, Boldin is a free agent after this season, FYI.
