To comment on the karma thing...well, I don't subscribe to that theory in general, but I sincerely feel that Cooke will get his justice on a personal level. Not because of karma, but because he's ticking people off. And gosh, if this concussion costs Sid his career it'd be one of the biggest tragedies in NHL history (behind all lives cut short of course...). The thought is just depressing. I really think that the Canadian media is making hockey fans feel more angst about his injury than there really is though. The Pens haven't changed his status in awhile now, but the rumors are swirling. Shero even said he's doing functional rehab and they never considered shutting him down, but the thought still lingers because of those dang rumors.

On the Geno thing...this is old news. Honestly, I don't know why they even bothered pursuing another opinion. A tear of the ACL in a pro-athlete is nearly 100% surgical. Even if it's not full length or width, it's surgical. Regardless, they had to wait for his swelling to go down anyway. Pens fans just be happy that ACL surgery has come leaps and bounds from what it once was: long leg cast, immobilized for a few months, out for 9-12 months. Now they start moving it after surgery. Literally right after surgery.

I know what you mean. It's a shame medical science wasn't this advanced 40 years ago. Maybe Bobby Orr's career could have lasted longer than it did instead if him having to retire just as he was entering his prime. :(

I agree, but seeing the long list of players who have had their careers ended prematurely, you really have to worry about Sid's future. Cooke isn't the only d-bag in the league, and it wouldn't surprise me if others started taking runs at Sid to get him off his game, or even worse, attempt to injure him again. This is a worse case scenario for the NHL and until they show they're really committed to stopping these cheap, dirty hits, the fans, and even worse the players, will suffer the consequences.

The scary thing is, when you look at Savvy's concussions and what caused them, the past few hits weren't cheap. They weren't blindside, or head hunters, they were just awkward and unfortunate. That's what scares me. All it takes is one cheap shot and you spend the rest of your career on your toes for those freak ones. In Sid's case it's scary because he plays in the corners, does the dirty work, and constantly gets hit against the boards. That's worrying.

I think Crosby will be all right, eventually. And, from the sounds of it, the Pens front office is still expecting him to return to the ice this season. Shero addressed the rumor mill, yesterday in regards to Sid being shut down for the season:

Did he have ACL problems? I honestly don't know. But if he did, then yeah, it would've effectively ended his career, because back then they just casted you. They just had no idea that the ACL couldn't repair itself. I mean, technically you can go through life without one, and attempt to play sports, but you'll just have no balance and your knees will constantly give out. Sucky stuff.

I'm pretty sure it was some kind of ligament damage, and where they didn't have the surgeries they have now, the injury repeated itself. That was one of the saddest days when he had to retire. Those who saw him play know how I feel. He was basically Gretzky on defense. I doubt another defenseman wins the scoring title again.

That's what I'm talking about. Hopefully, Sid's concussion isn't a sever one. sometimes you can get one and not have them reoccur, but unfortunately, most times you're chances of getting more is at a high risk. Even though Sid plays for the Pens, I'm hoping this is his only one. It's a joy to watch him play, except when he plays the Bruins of course :D
