He's not much of a QB coach......but then, all he had to work with was Case McCoy, so I'll give him a mulligan.

Where he REALLY shines is in recruiting, at least in Texas. Major can pull in some talent.

I know that Major was under Mack's thumb while he was at UT. He made a 'major' mistake by joining Mack's staff. If he had stayed at Alabama, he would probably have replaced Mack.

He's a relentless recruiter.

regardless of his coaching, he was a killer in a football game. Just the other day watched that bowl game between Tex/Wash, his last game. Didn't play all year (Simms) but when Simms self-destructed in the Big12 Champ game, and Major almost brought them back, Mack relented and started Major in the Bowl game.


Result: 475 yards passing, at least 3 TDs, and brought Texas back to win.

I would not take either as an OC. Both good recruiters, but I have not seen much to back them as an OC.

lol. I couldn't find that article/post again if I tried. I just happen to randomly come across it on the interwebs. I didn't really believe it was credible so I didn't use it as a reference here, but thought it might stir a conversation.

I think we overlook the fact Mack was overruling his gameplans in half the games and the fact his QB was Case McCoy.

He'd have to be a miracle worker to win with the limited plays you can call in that scenario.

I agree. We know he is a good recruiter. We don't really know if he can coach or not. We do know that lame fucks up every program he goes near in recent history and is the ultimate douchebag.

Major is the reason why Case was let "loose" to at least attempt to do well, get lucky enough to play outside his abilities, and get wins that would never have been gotten under Mack.

Mack would have played small and lost AT LEAST to OU and WVU.

We were one half of one game from being Big12 champs with Derp and a BROKEN team!!
