More I think about it ... and John Smoltz was saying last night on MLB Tonight that he sees at least 1 WC2 tie on the horizon.

What if? TBR is WC1 ... and DET and OAK are tied for WC2. One game tie breaker is played at the field that wins the tie breaker. Say that is OAK. So OAK plays 1 game ... beats DET to claim WC2 spot. Flies to TBR for the WC playin the next day. OAK wins the WC play in ... then has to meet TEX (assuming #1 status) in OAK the next day to host 2-3 ALDS.

Those guys are going to be tired and will have shot their top pitchers just to get to the ALDS.

That's why it's so important to be the #1 seed of at all possible.

I always held the view that having HFA through the LCS was the paramount achievement after taking its division. Many others would pooh-pooh HFA rolling out stats where lower seeds won anyway. TEX is an example of that team.

But ... I think more see with the new setup that being #1 and getting the WC day after the WC play-in is a lot better opportunity than opening a five game series at NYY in a normal 2-2-1 ... or in the following round 2-3-2.

It's far easier to play when you are leading the league. You just have to win more games than anyone else the rest of the way. Don't have to scoreboard watch or nothin. Just focus and win.

I think its awesome, screw the Yankees and Sox

Baltimore has done some serious talent development in the last few years, along with taking on guys not good enough for the Rangers

Considering where we were last year (and the past 15...), I should be happy that we'll most likely finish above .500 (I mean we should be able to go 5-20 down the stretch), but at this point, I think I'll be disappointed if we do end up missing the playoffs.

You guys could do us a huge favor by sweeping the Rays this weekend.

Considering just recent history, Baltimore fans right now are where Texas fans were a couple of years ago...thrilled at the prospect of making the playoffs and everything beyond that is gravy.

With that said, BWI does concern me more than the Yankees. If somehow the Yankees right the ship, they will be getting healthy just in time for an October run but I'm thinking they may be doubting themselves while running into stout TPA and BWI teams.

Well said. That was 2010 ... expectations were low so the pressure to win wasn't high. TEX took the trip to the WS along with another team ... SFG ... with no expectations.

It's fun seeing the fun the fans in BAL and OAK are having with their teams' play. Both are playing for the joy of it ... makes them pretty tough to beat.

most Texas fans are still having just as much fun with the play of their team it's just slightly clouded by the ones who have to find something to gripe about to the point of annoyance

With some of the decisions being made its not hard to find something to "gripe" about. When you know your team has the potential for greatness it's difficult to tolerate stupidity. We're no longer just happy to be here, and that's a very good thing.

i understand but after enduring 40 years of total futility with this team i and a lot of others are enjoying the success. 4 straight winning seasons and 2 straight WS appearances.

all of us wish the team was 137-0 and not 82-55, still the best record in the AL, but making assumptions that this move or that move is going to make the team better is asinine. you think benching this player and playing this player would make the team better while i think that the only real weakness of this team is centered around pitching. and pitching is what this team needs to concentrate on in the off-season

Playing the second worst every day player in baseball day after day when you have better players sitting on the bench is unacceptable no matter how far you are up in the division. Or how bout playing a butcher in the field when you have far superior defensive options that can actually swing the bat sitting on the bench. For all Moreland has done this year he will be a bench player in the NL parks (assuming we make it there) so the butcher can continue to play every game and that is unacceptable. Wash needs to be fired or MY needs to be off this team this winter. But both cannot continue to be allowed to drag this team down going forward.

This isn't a fantasy team. There are ramifications for sitting your clubhouse leader.

I didn't say he needed to be riding pine 7 days a week, but he didn't need to be playing 2 months straight without a day off either.

20?

30?
