Word is he turned the University of Texas head coaching job today.

UT is one of the most prestigious head coaching jobs in the country.

Mora also turned down the head coaching job at the University of Washington, where he played football and met his wife.

Loyalty is hard to come by in college football today. Staying at UCLA instead of coaching his home town Huskies or the Texas Longhorns shows the dedication he has to the program and that is extremely admirable. UCLA has one of the few coaches with integrity left.

Wasn't he born in Colorado and moved to LA at a young age?

Something stinks at texas...

Just an idea but:

Look at what came out with O'Brien at Penn St, maybe just maybe coaches don't want to walk into a situation where boosters or Alumni tell them over and over how things are done there????

TEXAS has not offered a job to anyone.

They have only interviewed 2 known candidates. (Charlie Strong, James Franklin)

Neither was offered the job yet.

Maybe, Mora interviewed as well....but there is no indication....

So, I am not sure how he turned down a job offer that never was offered.

Article states he DID NOT turn down the job it was never offered he just pulled his name from consideration. Now if he interviewed or not is probably a point of perspective.

LOL, everyone wants to hate on Texas.

They haven't offered ANYONE a job yet. They are doing their due diligence and interviewing all candidates. USUALLY the coaches that publicly state they aren't interested are the ones that will take the job in a heartbeat if offered.

Patterson is doing a GREAT job on this. Nothing is getting leaked to the press, and no one has any idea how he's going about this. Hell we didn't even know who had been interviewed until well after the fact. He's running a tight ship. EVERYTHING you've heard outside of Franklin and Strong getting interviewed is pure rumor and speculation.

Well compare that sentence to the very opening sentence of this thread.

Removing his name from consideration a lot different than "turning down the job".

And since NOBODY has been offered the job, it is impossible for anyone to turn it down.

Yeah, his name is Steve Patterson...:yahoo:

I said this earlier in some UT/UT comparison thread. I have no clue how good or not good he is, but I'd think someone who was running the program for years would know a better fit than someone new.

More money by millions;
Lower cost of living;
No state income tax;
Better football school.

"HAD" he been offered this, we would have something to talk about. Texas knew who they were hiring all along.

Its just like Art Briles. Multiple reports came out saying he would accept Texas job if offered. He was never offered. Found out that he would not be offered. Then saved face by "removing his name from consideration."

Strong is a great hire, imo. I personally would have liked Mora - but we chose Strong, which was my overall #2 choice out of the mentioned candidates.
