Honestly, I'm not thinking that this is on him.I actually like the Kovalchuk benching, even after we lost. He's making a statement.

how do you justify this as making a statement when its your leading scorer, and you get blown out.

I disagree about Kovy. I think he's been playing at a low level in terms of his overall game. Honestly, I'm sick of him stick handling straight into defensemen. Sure it worked once so far, but I'm not satisfied with that. If you're going to let the team know that no one is safe if you don't work hard, who do you sit?

Furthermore, none of us are sure what's going on in the locker room, but I'm sure something's going on that merited this. MacLean didn't just do this on a whim.

Either way, something weird is going on. He plays 15 min against Boston and is a -2. Then he gets his ice time back against Montreal and only musters 1 shot. And I think we can all agree that he didn't do much in the Montreal game besides a few good play on the PP. I'm specifically referring to the one play where he carried the puck from the near wall and cut to the middle and made an excellent slap pass to Elias who wasn't able to handle it. He's looked on the same page with taormina though.

Something weird is going on.. We'll also get status quo'd over it tomorrow. BTW, if Kovy plays tomorrow and has a strong game, people's view of Mac will shift, just like how no one would have been terribly upset if we won tonight.

I'm not sure where Kovy is going to end up, but at some point he's probably going to get the left side with Arnott.

i was just going to sign in and make this exact same thread...after reading todays ledger he is 100% on the hot seat...why?

1. the shaky start
2. the handling of broduer playing time
3. handling the playing time esp with him struggling
4. kovalchuk fiasco


i know hes the coach but seriously who the heck is he to bench the teams best player without giving a reason? a reason to us the fans? he looks 150x more stupid since they go out there with no kovalchuk and get spanked!

I said it in another tread, I cant remember where. But the 1st goal he should have stopped, 2nd goal I'm about 50/50 on I think he went down too early because he bit on the fake, the 3rd goal and he should have atleast made an attempt to stop the puck from crossing the line instead of watching it roll in, and I miss the 4th goal because I was answering the door. But if Marty let any of the goals in all people say is Marty should have stopped it or his age is catching up with him so why is Hedberg getting let off the hook but Marty gets fried?

I thought Hedberg was bad, just not as bad as it looked in the box score. You won't find me getting on Marty's case. I'm one of his biggest supporters. Ask Cup the same question, haha.

im going way out on a limb...if they return from this trip with only 1 win...i dont think maclean comes back with them. i know thats a huge reach but he just isnt getting it done

I think it will have much more to do with the effort and the way the team was playing than record, but the real question is what happens if it seems like we're falling apart. Many, many people on the other board said that they should sign Kovy and Parise and wait out the bad contracts, playoffs or not. I'm not one of those people.
