Mediocre white retreads get new jobs all the time. So it's a sign of progress when a mediocre black one gets a job. Last time a mediocre black coach got rehired (after not having a head coach job for a while) in the NFL was Art Shell and that was a while ago.
Jim Caldwell doesn’t count as black anymore?

I think Lovie dropped from mediocre to bad a few years ago.

Hiring shitty coaches based on race?

Congrats on that retardery.
No, I mean if getting rehired even when you're shitty is something black people can do, we really are closer to being colorblind in that.

The fact that all these coaching jobs changed and Jeff Fisher wasn't mentioned is a disgrace. He should be suing

"7 win" Jeff won't and shouldn't coach again. The Rams drastically improved the minute that he left.

I am all for black head coaches getting a shot but Lovie Smith really wasn't what I had in mind. Lovie had his moment to coach he was an awesome run in Chicago not so much in Tampa but I was hoping that Eric B. would have gotten this Texans job.

I think Brian Flores would have been the Houston Texans HC right now if not for his butt hurt feelings on not getting the job or interview in NY. Brian Flores wanted Watson. Watson wanted to be with Flores. It was a chance to start over for Houston with a hot coaching commodity and a guy their head strong QB wanted. Granted, Watson has plenty of his own issues right now, but that is what I think Houston really wanted to do until Flores blew up his own career path.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with that take on Flores. He burned a lot of bridges with this thing but he knew full well what this would cost him so it is what it is.
As for the Texans situation, Watson is only a small part of it. Fwiw, however and whenever his situation is sorted out, I don't see him ever taking another snap for them. And they might have the worst roster in the league. They are completely rebuilding from scratch at this point, imo.
The hire of Culley was just a token hire and they had no intention of keeping him for more than one season. I think they hoped the Watson deal would be settled but they are still in limbo with that. So they gave Lovie the job partly as a minority hire to save face with the public perception but likely just as much to keep a familiar face around the team. This is as much about just letting the dust settle and hoping they get some things sorted out this offseason and next. Frankly, they knew this and should have just kept Culley but the ownership is under some delusion that they can be competitive.

What's next? Caldwell to sue Flores for stealing his rightful thunder?

How can a guy that lead the LIONS to winning records and playoff appearances not be considered good enough for the NFL? C'mon Saints, do the right thing.

Not surprised.
The Texans are a mess and are being run into the ground by the Mcnairs son.
Good luck with Lovie.

Do the right thing?
You mean hire a coach simply based on his skin color?
Errr.....that's the definition of racism.

Nothing. Literally nothing. If there's a retread that should be getting another chance, it was Todd Bowles.

I agree about Todd Bowles. His only HC gig was for the Jets and that deserves a free pass. TB's defense shut down a very potent KC offense in the Super Bowl. Additionally, they shut down Aaron Rogers and Drew Brees on their way.

I really don't mean to go there because Lovie comes off as a cool guy with a little HC success but with all this recent media racism shit....................is this hire in any way motivated by the recent Flores situation? I mean, Lovie was pretty good in Chicago but not so much elsewhere. I'm actually very surprised they chose him.

Or, is Smith being hired to oversee a rebuild that is doomed for the next few seasons only to be fired in two years and replaced by a white dude once the rebuild is complete?

Or, do the Texans really believe he was the best guy available for the job? Sorry but he just seems mediocre to me.
Flores is amending his lawsuit to include Smith claiming that Smith is only a token

don't worry the NFL will require that teams must only interview minority candidates
