That was exactly my first thought when I saw it scroll across the ticker. I don't really mind having him but that's waaay too much money. It is pending a physical though and I can get to Atlanta in about 2 or so hours and take care of that. :spy:

Edit: $75 million per year would be quite a fucking thing.

Bit of a weak market so I think it's an overpayment but it's not a bad move for Atlanta. I know he's 3 years younger than Hamilton but it makes me wonder what type of contract he will get. I'm thinking 5-6 years $18 million per.

Yeah, I bet Hamiliton will make serious bank. Word on the street is Bourn wanted more than what we gave Upton, which IMO would have been overpaying as well. When Bourn starts losing some of his speed (which may be happening now) he's not going to be nearly as effective.

According to John Morosi the Braves are going after Justin Upton too.

The snag in the deal seems to be this SS named Simmons or Simpson or something.

I'm not big on Simmons going anywhere.

Nats traded for Denard Span who has 3 years left on his deal, and costs a shit ton less. He doesn't have Upton's power, but he strikes out half as much, walks at about the ame rate, and IMO is better defensively by a little bit. They really are almost identical in overall play but Span is coming at a discount. I still don't think the Nats will lead off with Span, FWIW.

It appeared the Braves wanted Span to go along with Upton but that obviously didn't work out. I read they (Braves) may be interested in Alex Gordon too.

That's a bad contract. They'll regret that.

Thoughts on Span trade?

I have no idea how good the Bullpen arm was that you gave up for him (so obviously that's the wild card), but Span is a good pickup. He's close to Bourn number-wise (only thing Bourn has on him is SB's) at 1/3rd of the price. He's also a little bit younger than Bourn is too.

Hamilton may get 5-6 yrs, but my guess is 4. And he'll get 20m/yr or more.

If some team offers Hamilton 5 years he'll sign with them. Up to this point no team seems to be willing to go more than 3 years.

I can't believe some team is probably going to give Grienke 20M per. That's nuts.
