Looks like the 1st round is setting up well for us

I've seen a lot of mocks lately with the Cowboys taking S Calvin Pryor out of Louisville over Dix from FSU. After watching their highlight reels, it doesn't look like we could go wrong with either. The great news, to me, is that it seems there are going to be 4-5 QB's and a few OL taken early, which is pushing down top prospects at DT, S, and DE. Of the consensus of players that are going of most boards between 12 and 20, either a Dix or Pryor or Ealy or Jernigan is going to be there for Dallas. The Cowboys may well have the best player at a need position fall right in their laps

With our needs and the DT and S talent there's no reason to even slightly reach in the first 3 rounds.

That is the one statement I hope Jerry considers the most. Don't outsmart yourselves, just take the player you need. With the exception of Escobar(IMO) they did a nice job of that last year. No draft is going to be perfect, but if Jerry takes Warford over Escobar last year, it might have been considered the best draft of any team in the league one year later

u could add Williams into the same category. He wasn't a need in 2013. As twist and a few others said I think he was picked for roster moves in 2014

Dix is gonna bust guaranteed. I am seeing very few Alababa players coming in and dominating. The Cowboys need the next eric berry. He ain't even remotely close to that. We need to go OL,DL or WR in the 1st round. The best players available for us is the best OT,OG or WR available. We can take Daquan Jones in the 2nd. He has more upside than anyone other than donald

I got Gabe Jackson or Donald in round 1, Telvin Smith in round 2, and DAquan Jones in round 3. Brooks FS florida state in round 4. Telvin Smith and Donald plus Lee would be very dynamic. Dix flat out sucks IMO. Pryor is not what we need either

Pryor looks more like a playmaker to me, He may be worth it. I will wait until after the combine to give my stamp of approval on him. This team needs more speed on defense,and it ain't coming from dix

This time it has much more to do with you suggesting we NEED a WR or OL In the first. Neither you nor I know if Dix will be a bust or not. I don't really give a rats ass who we think will or will not be a bust. What I'm sure about is the DL and S need tower over every other need on this team. After DT and S the needs are DE and OLB. Get past these needs and then we can talk offense. Now with all that said if in the third round we have a low fist high 2nd G or a mid 2nd WR fall to us I would complain if we went that route. The safety I like is Bailey. He's a SS so he's less of a need for us but I think he's a difference maker at the next level.

Any of those "Mock Drafters" have an actual pick? The mocks mean NOTHING in February and not too much more in May...

The mocks themselves mean nothing as far as the specific order guys come off, but the better mocks have the player groupings pretty darn accurate, as far as who is a top 10, 20, 1st rounder, etc. Even Gosselin with the DMN gets 25-30 of the 32 drafted in the 1st round correct.Sure there are exceptions, but with the number of teams needing QB's, and the fact that 4-5 are projected to go in the top 10, as well as factoring in a few blue chip LB's and OL, you can actually say with some confidence that the Cowboys may have their pick of top DT's, DE's and S.

Indeed ..... though I have my doubts when it comes to Jerry ...... This is a pretty deep draft on meat and potato players......

we can go two different directions in the 1st and still end up with an impact player.

We can take the better of the two between S and DT in the 1st and take the other in the 2nd and get very good players. Hell if need be we could take another position with either one of the first two picks and find an NFL S or DT in the 3rd. This wouldn't be my preference but the S and DT talent is deep this year.
