Alexei Yashin is in talks with the New York Islanders about a possible return to the NHL, according to a tweet by Dmitry Chesnokov of Puck Daddy.

News broke on Monday that Yashin had been presented with a contract by an NHL club, however his agent Mark Gandler said that he didn’t want to name the team. Today, Gandler revealed to SovSport that the team who contact Yashin was the New York Islanders, and that his agent is “seriously considering” their offer.

i say another 10 year deal should be appropriate

also, if the Isles thing actually happens, they would have two concurrent cap hits for him.
one for whatever salary, and one still from the buyout

to make way for Yashin the Isles will then Trade Tavares, Grabner and their 1st round pick in 2012 and 2013 for Alexander Semin and a 7th round pick.

Asked about the trade GM Garth Wan... Snow said

"We wanted to make sure that Yashin felt comfortable coming back to the organization so we got the softest russian in the league to play wing for Yashin who surely changed his ways.... we believe this will make Yashin feel like he is the toughest russian on the team.

We also have agreed to a 9 year deal for Yashin at $6M per season as we felt 10 years was too long."

I can honestly say the Isles fans on their fans site are up in arms about this.

Signing Yashin could cost Wang his opportunity at a new arena on August 1st. This could be the BIGGEST, MOST IDIOTIC PUBLIC RELATIONS DISASTER IN THE HISTORY OF THE NHL!!

I don't know why, but when I saw this thread I thought "only the Islanders would make that mistake". I'm like Miss Cleo.
