There seems to be a mentality that one form of hate speech is worse than the other, but they all have the same outlying effect. Bottom line, it's a word that shouldn't be used - especially in today's world. People could get away with feigning ignorance ten to twenty years ago, but not in 2011.

Simmonds should be fined. Losing a portion of a paycheck will probably have little impact on his feelings - but if it gets him to think twice about using the word, then it's a start.
