I get so annoyed how the NFL just recycles coaches. Doesn't work at one franchise? No problem, lets hire him.

I'm puzzled by this as well.

If a guy failed in one city, I'd think twice about giving him a shot.

You have the OCCASIONAL success story like with BB failing in Cleveland and having success in NE, but most of the time it doesn't work.

At least Norv is a great offensive mind. Jim Caldwell is as incompetent as they get.

maybe they should have tried for rex talk about incompetent:suds:

Lions hired Ravens OC Jim Caldwell as their head coach.
After missing out on top target Ken Whisenhunt, the Lions settle for the man who worked hand-in-hand with Peyton Manning/Tony Dungy in Indy from 2002-2011. His success there as the quarterbacks coach and then head coach was impressive (two Super Bowl appearances, one win), but his ability to turn around the Ravens offense and lead them to a Super Bowl win after Cam Cameron was fired late in the 2012 season should be the bold print on his resume. In Detroit, Caldwell inherits a franchise quarterback that needs polishing in Matthew Stafford, the game's best wideout in Calvin Johnson, a potentially dominant defensive line and an all-purpose back in Reggie Bush. It's a professional hire that figures to benefit Stafford. Only the Browns and Vikings remain as teams still in search of a head coach.

nope, most of the time it doesn't. Look for this guy to get fired in 2-3 years, and he will find himself as a HC in another city after that.

Based on what? Turning BAL around mid season? 2 SB trips...Idk what this guy is as a HC but he does atleast appear to be competent as an OC.

I'm thinking he'll be decent, but nothing special...whenever he does get canned again, I think that will be the end of him as a HC...by then David Shaw and a couple of others @ the college level will be ready for the NFL.

Could they have hired someone worse? Hell, I shouldve asked my garbage man this morning to get in touch with the organization. Ridiculous.

The 29th best offense isnt exactly a ringing endorsement, neither is the 52-85.

Yep...not ringing, but after losing the best WR, TE, and LT...they struggled.

The post I responded to said incompetent...period, which imo was foolish...but I have no clue what he will be as the HC.

Why is everyone saying he is incompetent? I thought he did well in Indy- of course, its hard to say how much HE really did given the QB he had there.

Congrats to the Lions for becoming the 1st franchise in NFL history to trick themselves into hiring their own Rooney Rule candidate. Unbelievable.

This is not a bad hiring. It's just a "meh" hiring. Caldwell does fit the need for a coach that brings discipline & maturity to the team. He just isn't a sexy hire.
