LSU's Devin White: Lions' Jarrad Davis and I would make great duo

The first formal interview LSU linebacker Devin White had at the NFL combine this week was Friday night with the Detroit Lions.

And White, a potential top-10 pick, said he knocked his sitdown with Lions coach Matt Patricia, general manager Bob Quinn and other decision makers out of the park.

"I knocked every interview out of the park," the ultra-confident tackling machine said.

White said he walked into the Lions' suite at the Crowne Plaza hotel and was immediately thrown a marker and told to start drawing up defenses on a dry-erase board.

"They put me on the board as soon as I got in there, trying to see where my head was at," White said Saturday. "And they knew who (LSU defensive coordinator Dave) Aranda was and they knew his philosophy so they told me, 'I know y’all like to run an under-front defense, so draw an under front and tell me what everybody’s doing.'

"So I got up there and I did it, cause I’m the mike linebacker, that’s the easiest thing to do, to draw the defense cause I know what everybody’s doing."

The Lions spent a first-round pick on linebacker Jarrad Davis in 2017, and after a rough rookie season, Davis played well down the stretch last year. He led the Lions with 100 tackles and finished third on the team with six sacks as the Lions lined him up all over the field.

White said he and Davis would complement each other in every area but the uniform number they wear. Davis wears No. 40 for the Lions, and White wore the same number at LSU and had a gold No. 40 charm dangling from his neck during his combine news conference.

"I watched him a lot in college," White said. "He played through injury, he did everything for the Florida Gators. Man, I was a big fan. He got a YouTube video that I used to watch before a couple of my games and just watched the passion that he played with. So just letting us roam that middle at the same (time), that’s another great linebacker with an up-and-coming great linebacker so I feel like we’ll play exceptionally well, too. But, hey, if they want to get me I’m willing to go and I’m willing to put the work in. But he’s going to have to give me that number."

I'm still interested in drafting tOSU WR Terry McLaurin but only as a day 3 pick. He might not last until 5th. He had one of the best all-around days at the combine for WR.

Fuck all that, he looks like one of the coneheads from the Saturday night live skits. Lions would have to waste money by making a special helmet for him.

BB_72; Sweat just earned his spot in top 10 if not top 5 depending on how many QB's go top 5

How often to DE's run in a straight 40 yard dash?
IMO, 40 yard dash is important for DB and WR more than anyone. Based on the fact that they could actually have to run a straight 40 yards on one route.

What was Sweat's short area burst numbers? Those are much more valuable for that position.

Rookie that hasn't played an NFL snap demands that a veteran give him their jersey number lol.
I hope he was being sarcastic.

2019 NFL Combine: WR Winners, Losers, and Risers | The Draft Network

Winners

Terry McLaurin, Ohio State
Big day for Ohio State in general -- they had 3 of the Top-10 WRs in terms of 40 time. While Parris Campbell may have had the best day testing of the three, I think he was about where we expected on a lot of stuff, while McLaurin's numbers were more surprising to me. Disagree with whatever you want, Campbell was awesome. I'm picking McLaurin.

Comfortably sub 4.4 with a 4.35 40-yard dash, explosive with a 37.5" vert and 10'5 broad, and shifty as all nothing with a 7.01 3-cone and 4.15 short-shuttle. At 208, with such a well-rounded athletic profile and his special-teams history, I don't know how teams aren't drooling over McLaurin as a potential steal at WR.

2019 NFL Combine: WR Winners, Losers, and Risers | The Draft Network

Risers

Stanley Morgan Jr., Nebraska

Not really a surprise riser (a surpriser, if you will), if you've been following some of TDN's content -- but still a great day for Morgan that deserves recognition. Because he didn't run a wild 40 -- 4.53 -- the Twitterverse didn't cover his next results as closely. 38.5" vertical jump; 10'5 broad jump; 4.13 short shuttle; and a KILLAH! 6.78 3-cone. Those are all excellent times for the shifty route-runner who has a clear path to an NFL role in the slot.

BB_72; of course the short-shuttle and 3-cone are more important and Sweat/Burns are nearly identical in the 3-cone at 7.01/7.0 respectively.

Sweat's 4.29 short-shuttle should be .10/.12 better than a 4.29 but that's still pretty good for as long as he is. Burns had yet to run his short-shuttle.

I am torn a bit. I really like Devin Bush too. I thought he might possibly fall to round 2 but it looks like he is a solid mid first rounder now. I might actually favor him a bit over White. Need to look into both players some more. I remember clearly that Bush was always making incredible plays all over the field, every time I wanted Michigan.

^^^^

McLaurin didn't see nearly as many targets as did teammates Paris Campbell, KJ Hill.

Well Hakeem Butler ran in the 4.4s so he is not making it to round 3 or even to round 2 for us so we will need to look elsewhere most likely.

That 21 reps is a little weak too for a guy his size who will need to use that punch/push.

Yeah. Not sure how of all positions. A 40 yard dash, which a DE might run once a year on the football field. Catapults a guy into the top ten. Not even sure why they have DL and OL run a 40 yard dash at the combine anyways. If he had elite 3 cone and short shuttle then that would be much more eye opening for me.

Bush is a bit smaller but also a bit more explosive and agile. I also think Bush has better instincts.
I assume the reason White has a higher grade is because he has room to grow in most evaluator's eyes.

I think Cody Barton and Ben Burr-Kirven are close in athleticism and will be available rounds later. In the case of Burr-Kirven I would say his instincts are at least as good as Bush or White.

He was also top 5 in Broad Jump, 3 cone, and 20 yard shuttle among edge. The 40 combined with his other testing being elite across the board moves him into top 10 I think.

It's good to see that he killed it everywhere else too. He also has long arms too. I wouldn't be angry if our staff took him because we really need defense. As long as it isn't a fuggin TE.
