The Athletic's Dane Brugler said West Virginia TE Trevon Wesco will be a Day 3 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Wesco (6'3/270) was used sparingly at West Virginia with wide receiver prospects Gary Jennings and David Sills hogging the looks, but he made the most of his looks, finishing second in yards per target (12.1) among tight ends invited to the NFL Combine this season. Wesco also caught 26-of-30 targets, which led to the highest Marginal Efficiency in the 2019 TE draft class. Since he wasn't used heavily, his NFL Combine results will largely dictate how high he goes in the draft.

I read on multiple places that after the top 3 LB's. There is an absolute massive drop-off.

100% agree with you and MP's scheme relies heavily on it's LB corps to clean up, blitz and shallow zone coverage.

After White you have Bama's-Mack Wilson, U of M Devin Bush and then the free fall in talent shows up in masses.

He is tough I guess but I don't like his upright running style. That shit doesn't fly in the NFL. Reminds me of the old Titans RB Chris Brown I think his name was. Talented as hell but an upright runner who was always nicked up and only good for about 4-5 seasons.

A.P., Jamal Charles, Priest Holmes, Eddie George, Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson were all upright runners. Herschel and Bo were just too strong and could easily run over you or ragdoll you with a nasty stiff-arm.

I don't give a damn if it's between 20-30. If that dude takes a TE, ANYWHERE in the first round. The fire Quinn IMMEDIATELY thread is going up. The Lions were a couple narrow wins away from the #1 overall pick. Taking a TE in the 1st round would be complete Millenesque.

Mayhew drafting two TE's, one at #20 and the other at #10, shouldn't dissuade one from drafting a different TE altogether who has great in-line and out in space blocking abilities, great hands, great ability to block-out defenders when ball arrives, great ability to draw coverage away from Golladay and MJ.

There is only ONE TE in this class that is a five tool TE and that's Hockenson. Fant and Irv Smith Jr. both are fantastic speed guys who can open up the boundaries or seams.

You'll be bitching when they draft another TE and that TE misses his block consistently and costs the Lions a game or two or gets Stafford hammered and costs him games or a season.

Never know. CB's to tend to go early but there are good players who slip to the 2nd round in every draft.

outside of an injury between now and the draft that could jeopardize Murphy's draft status, I propose to you a SportsHoopla bookie money bet, $500 of your money, that CB Byron Murphy doesn't make it to the 2nd round of this years, 2019, draft.

I think it might be wise for you to go and get one of those local dispensary cards for the specialty shops because you're going to need it, imo.

He's my pick as a possible draft pick for the Lions even though I don't want to use a draft pick on a QB. I doubt he makes it to UDFA. He's somewhat raw and needs a lot of mechanics upgrade with his footwork but go look at some of his having the trio WR group of D.K. Metcalf, AJ Brown and De Markus Lodge.

Interior Defensive Line
Most To Prove: Gerald Willis, Miami

After some buzz in-season elevated his stock momentarily, Willis didn’t finish the season as strong as he started it, and has plummeted back down to the middle rounds as a result. We know he can fire gaps, but functional strength, overall athleticism and flexibility are big question marks for a guy who needs to sell his developmental upside.

Sleeper: Kingsley Keke, Texas A&M

I think Keke will have the best 3-cone of any interior defensive lineman based on the bend he shows on tape, my question is how explosive he’ll be in the jumps/10-yard split. He moves pretty fluidly on tape, but the suddenness will be what teams want to see.

I like both of the above players and Keke must have lost 25-30 lbs. since ending of regular season 2017 going into 2018. Keke easily looked 310 lbs and was consistently late of the snap by more than a 1/10th second in 2017 but that wasn't the case in 2018 after dropping a lot of weight. 2017 saw him mostly play inside as a 3-0 tech, whereas in 2018 he played up and down the line and had more busrt and better COD skills than the previous year. He lacks counter moves in pass rush and needs better leverage, needs to keep his hips down and feet balanced when in contact with OL but he possess long arms, long wingspan and the talent is there to get more out of him. He could be a good rotational piece for Da'Shawn Hand.

Draft Class Heroes: NFL Combine Preview - The Draft Network

Edge Defender
Most To Prove: Montez Sweat, Mississippi State

Sweat has received a lot of top ten buzz over the past month, but that should go away fast if he doesn’t test on the level of the other top edges in Indy. Sweat is a solid athlete, but does he have the bend and flexibility on the level of most first round edge defender. His agility results will be something to watch.

I'd take Sweat before he ends up in GB or Atl. He's the type MP should want to coach and get more out of him with mechanics tweaks. He's not real bendy but he's a much better prospect, imo, than Clelin Ferrell.

Draft Class Heroes: NFL Combine Preview - The Draft Network

Sleeper: Darryl Johnson, North Carolina A&T

An early declaree for the draft, Johnson has some impressive flexibility on tape, as well as the length teams love at 6-foot-5 with vines for arms. I need to get more of his tape, but he might end up as my favorite sleeper edge in the class.

I don't know a single thing about this guy other than it's the 3rd or 4th time I've read someone mention about him.

Baker is, imo, a perfect nickel/slot CB but I'd think some team will give him a shot to start as an outside CB first. I don't think he's a fit for boundary CB but you never know. He's very physical similar to Lawson but doesn't have recovery speed and once the WR/TE gets by him he panics and grabs/tugs. He can jump though and I'd expect a damn good VJ from him at the combine.

Draft Class Heroes: NFL Combine Preview - The Draft Network

Sleeper: Justin Layne, Michigan State

Long corners who run well are risers. Long corners who run well in bad cornerback classes are BIG risers. I’m expecting the unexpected in this cornerback draft, and if Layne runs as well as I think he will, I’d expect a considerable boost up the board.

Layne has gone from H.S. WR prospect to CFB CB after his 1st year. Everyone wants the long corners to become the next best CB but it doesn't always work that way other than arrogant position coaches over-selling their ability. imo.

Safety
Most To Prove: Deionte Thompson, Alabama

There is a long list of safety prospects I could put in this spot, but Thompson’s stock has slid in the media after a few poor plays to end his 2018 season. Does the NFL feel the same way? They definitely will if he runs a 4.6 in Indy.

Sleeper: Marquise Blair, Utah

It feel like no one is talking about Blair, but I think he’s the type of player the NFL will consider in the 60-100 range of the draft. His athleticism needs to check out however, which I would expect given his explosiveness and apparent long speed on tape. Maybe some buzz on Blair gets going after Indy.

I'd be highly disappointed in BQ/MP if Thompson was still available in either the 2nd or 3rd round and they drafted him. He played above expectations the first 8 games and it was his first year in a starters role and then he had a slight leg injury and he was totally different from the LSU game onward. He has pretty good eye discipline and the ability to click and close but somehow those traits were minimized after game 8. He's good in run support and has good ball skills and route recognition but having a completely new DB backfield this year caused a lot of confusion on who had responsibilities for certain zones and players coming in and out of said zones.

He should have gone back to school, imo.
