Is there any other franchise in the NFL that it would be more understanding to jump ship from?

The Chargers? The Dolphins? Jets?

Even the Browns fans and as a city have an incredible amount of passion for the team.

I live in Philadelphia and I will presumably be in Philadelphia for the rest of my life. The 76ers have become my 2nd favorite sports organization, I cheer for the Flyers to an extent, I love Villanova basketball, and though irrelevant as a sport/game I guess I would call the Phillies my favorite baseball team but I cant shake the Redskins.

Its easier now then ever to shake them. I tried to shake them a few years ago. Bruce Allen/Snyder and this Kirk Cousins debacle could finally put me over the edge.

This city is going insane. And aside from maybe Jalen Mills and Malcolm Jenkins this is a very LIKABLE Eagles team. They are expecting 5 million people for the parade. The passion for this team is unmatched.

This didnt go on in NY after their SBs. Having gone to FedEx 5x I cant say I came away impressed with Skins fans and their passion. The type of celebration going on in Philadelphia would never happen in DC.

So I sit here and think to myself if the Skins ever win a SB in my lifetime, keyword: ever, will I just go insane and celebrate by myself at home or do I 100% fully embrace my city.

At the very least I came to this definitive conclusion last night: my future kids will be raised eagles fan.

Side note.

My problem with Redskins fans have nothing to do with the people posting on this board. Obviously huge fans with a ton of passion to be posting on redskins online forum. I just think you reflect the minority of the fan base.

I have family in southern maryland and I see cowboys decals and bumper stickers almost as frequently as I see redskins.

Skins have been embarrassed multiple times on TV by the sheer amount of opposing fans at home games.

This is Snyders fault.

I'm 32 and have been a fan for 27 years. I dont know what it was like in the 80s and 70s and what the fan base was like then... all I know is that there are 30% opposing fans at Skins games on a regular basis, they shut down sections because they cant fill up the seats, and there isnt a 100% consensus among fans that Kirk Cousins is and so obviously should be the Skins quarterback for the next 8 years.

Snyder did this.

Snyder created the apathy in the fan base
Snyder is the reason that I assume at my age I'm not alone and in the position where I am seriously questioning my fandom

TWo things on this

1. I been in Florida for 15 years now. I usually make it a point to get home for two home games minimum and I try to make 1-2 away games a year. IF the Redskins make another Super Bowl and win it in my life time pretty sure my boss wont expect me at work for a couple of days as I drive up for the parade. So leaving this team for me would mean walking away from the NFL all together. I'm dead center of Jags and Bucs territory, and BOTH teams look to have a brighter future than the Redskins currently. But then again IM pushing 50 and switching teams would be sort of like leaving my wife for a college Jr.

2. I have said it before, and you point it out here. I feel for the Redskins fans in your age range. All they have really known is the Snyder way. I include my sons in this group actually. And as a result, even though many of these fans rail against the way things are done in Ashburn, and even when they know deep down moves like this trade are just the latest win off the field, because they have never seen the Redskins really be good, its easy to convince yourself that this time they will get it right.

So yea, if I decide I'm no longer a Redskins fan, I would likely spend my Sundays fishing. And fuck Dan Snyder... he and Bruce are a poor excuse for JKC and Beathard.

The Alex Smith trade to me was a commitment by Snyder and Allen to maintain average. Stay somewhat relevant so you sell some tickets and avoid the PR criticism of yet another 5-11 type rebuilding seasons, even if that may be the right thing to do (aside from resigning cousins by offering a market value deal and building around him). Chiefs moved on from Smith because hes not the type of QB to get you to the next level, and everyone knows thats why the chiefs moved on.

To me this is by far the most disheartening front office move of my lifetime. The 2nd most was last year when they ran out SM.

So I'm sitting here with everything going on in Philly. I love and embrace this city. My wife and her family all in and around Philly are fans. Many of our friends here are fans. Its a very likable eagles team. They are competently ran. The fans have more passion then any market I've ever experience and...

Snyders Redskins are pretty much all I know.

If its going to happen the time is now...

For you, you could never cheer for the Bucs but the Jags could be interesting especially if they somehow land Cousins. Still an expansion team sorta feel so there isnt any deeply rooted hate like I sorta have for the Bucs. I told people that next year I'm a fan of Fanduel, but I do have the Eagles right in my backyard...

Yep - unfortunately this is a reflection of the Skins in the Snyder era. Very little winning & a lot of questionable decisions & kind of a lack of respect for fans. Not sure if the passion would be the same as Philly, but I am sure if the Redskins won a SB (not a realistic premise at this time) the fans and the DC area would go nuts. You have to remember that Philly is unique & quite different than DC in many respects - they have not won a championship in almost 60 years, haven't done great w/ other pro teams recently & are in an area with many long term residents unlike the DC area.

I just remember that passion during the Gibbs era - second to none. I slept on the sidewalk to get Skins playoff tickets during that time & there were tons of folks alongside me. RFK rocked (FedEx - much larger but is awful by comparison) & the town came together. Would be great if it can even come fairly close in the not too distant future.

I would just say - in spite of Snyder - just hang in there. The NFL is amazing in how teams can come out of nowhere & thrive in spite of circumstances. The Eagles came off 2 losing seasons & fired their coach not too long ago. The Redskins organization is admittedly worse but you never know - stranger things have happened. HTTR.

Seriously? Have you forgotten 1. firing Marty 2. hiring Spurrier & Zorn 3. the debacle of the last few weeks of Zorn 4. rehiring Vinny 5. the embarrassing last few weeks & eventual firing of Shanahan. 6. the disaster of signing & eventually releasing Fat Al. 6. the horrible FA moves of 2000. I could go on.

I understand your pt, but this is not even close IMO & I actually hold out some hope for Smith (I would just say give it a chance before totally badmouthing the move). I also - again - saw no way that the this FO was going to sign Cousins to a LTD. Hang in there.

I think why this move and the SM debacle bother me so much is because I really believed that we had turned over another leaf.

I really believed that Snyder was going to be out of the picture and football decisions would be handled by football people...

Zorn and Spurrier was at the height of the circus and dysfunction. It was the status quo at that time.

To me and everybody else SM represented a shifting paradigm for the good and started seeing more success. I foolishly bought in 100% and believed only to be punched in the gut. The revelation is that things havent changed, snyder is still the #1 guy, and things will NEVER change as long as snyder is the owner... and hes unfortunately not that old.

Agreed,

With the exception of fewer than 5 games per year (not counting the playoffs and SB) the only games that I currently watch are D.C. games. For me to stop watching them play is akin to a complete withdrawal. Truth is, for me, the only reason to watch them live is my connection to you guys otherwise, I'd just record them and watch at my leisure. I'm retired, so there's plenty of leisure time to create.

You know I'm actually fine with them moving on from Cousins at this point. Because I agree it never would have been a good fit. Even if they signed him to a LTD, it would have come down to something they had to do, not something they really thought was right. So for Cousins, it was the best thing for him. Because I believe he is actually a good person and deserves better than this team gave him. I know some will point to he got paid very well, but it was more a high priced escort situation. They paid him for a service, but never really wanted him here.

At this point my beef with it is, they are treating it like a bitter ex. Yes I'm done with you, but I need the kids to know that I was right.... oh and don't forget to pay the light bill that was in your name. IF they are done with him, commit to the new heart throb (Smith) and stop with the trying to control the situation and calling it a business decision.

I think it wise to join the celebration that the city is having. I'm willing to bet that not everyone celebrating is an Eagles fan, but who doesn't enjoy a good citywide party? You really don't have to show our colors to do so, and you just might find reason to stay convicted to the team in your heart. One thing that's certain, whether you decide to switch allegiance or not, you're always welcome here. Good-luck and have fun in the COBL!!

Cousins was by far the best Skins QB of my lifetime. I am not in scouting or the NFL in any aspect but to me and many other people we all saw a good QB.

Cousins had the stats AND he passed the eye test. It was obvious and for football people working for the redskins to not see this is unacceptable... unless its ego, which it probably is as well.

either we are fucked by
1) ego
2) piss poor talent evaluation

it doesnt make a difference because we are still fucked, just in a different position.

Unlike QBs like Derek Carr who have decent stats but when you watch them play you think they are mediocre and at best and dont pass eye test or.. the Alex Smiths

Well you could be rt - we will see. Personally I think that based on the past season Smith did very well & passed the eye test. However in previous years not so much.

This past season has shown that most teams need more than simply a good QB to do well & guys labeled as backups or game managers have taken teams very far - one to the pt of being a SB MVP. Your pts above concern me more not so much for the QB position, but how they will build this team moving fwd. There is still a long ways to go in the offseason & they could do much better or screw this up - we will see.

I have always been a fan of Foles and Keenum. I felt Foles was completely 100% underappreciated by Philly a few years ago.

I would not be so on the edge of the cliff if we had replaced Cousins with Foles or Keenum minus the draft pick compensation, fuller, and about $10 mill less a year annually.

Cousins gets $29 I'd of been okay paying Keenum $19. Cousins gets $30 I'd of been okay paying Foles $20.

Cousins gets $28. I'm not so okay paying the older and less effective Smith $24.

No offense meant but doesn't really sound like you are a Redskin fan. If you can just change teams ... of course why not become an Eagles fan now. Hell I was born in Philly maybe I should buy some gear .... but as bad as things are I have been rooting for this team for over 50 years. Not going to change now.

BTW I am really happy for the city of Philadelphia, my family and friends there. They have been waiting since 1960. I was alive and living in Philly then but too little to remember.

I was pretty die hard. Its almost unthinkable to switch teams. I've been a fan for 27 years but the last 5 or so seasons have really been wearing on me... there is a also a suitable replacement.

stars could be aligning. I certainly wouldnt feel this way if the eagles sucked and didnt just win a SB.

You really appear to be portraying Smith as being much worse than he played last season. Did you forgot that he was making a serious case at one pt in the season to be MVP? His stats & on field play were very good for most of the season. If you want to state that was just last season then I would ask what the hell did Keenum do outside of last season? The answer - zip & he is a few days short of 30.

I can understand being somewhat upset with the trade (especially giving up Fuller) but time to move on. Again - I would also pt out that no way in hell were the Redskins & Cousins ever going to come to terms on a LTD. I have no real issue with settling on Smith & yes perhaps they gave up too much, but if it works out then it is fine, and we can't undo it. If you want to jump ship - fine - & I don't hold it against you. I will always be a Redskins fan so I have no choice but to root for the best which means rooting for Smith & really not giving a crap about Cousins (unless his team plays the Skins).
