Lat year Bell's preseason posts were all about how hard he was working to be ready for when he signed his tag and rejoined the team. This year it seems to be all about him dicking around.

The Steelers need to send a strong message and make Bell earn the starting job again. Shouldn't take him more than 2 maybe 3 games or he gets Willy Piped for all I care.

I couldn't agree more......

Hell for that fact, just let Connor do the heavy lifting and bring bell in on third downs when you can use an idiot who believes he's the number 2WR..... that'll make things interesting for defenses to figure out.

He did say he wouldn’t play under the tag again. That or he slipped in the titty bar and hurt himself.

He said that in February or March... Pretty sure it was just a negotiation tactic. Or whatever his dumbass agent was tellin him to say. In April he specifically stated that he would report after the final preseason game and be ready for week 1.

Which he hasn't done yet and at this point I don't see how he'll be ready for a match up against your former OC which requires you to change up all your offensive audible calls and hand signals. We all thought it was just a negotiation tactic but he's still a no show, so maybe not.

How long can he take to sign the tag before he has to sit the whole year?

At this point I think Bell is trying to force a trade. Steelers won't bend. He can sit out all he wants and forgo that $860k per week. He's one of the top 5 highest paid NFL players on a weekly basis, and the Steelers will have zero problems keeping that money.

Steelers still hold all the cards. Bell is only hurting his current & future value by holding out. Not to mention he's burning bridges with his teammates.

The capital it would require to trade him at this point would be difficult to manage. First off, he hasn't even signed his tag so trading isn't even possible. And secondly, he's an aging star with high mileage playing a position that historically presents a very high rate of diminished returns... All of which hurts his trade value. Not many will want to eat that large of a contract for a player they may or may not get 2 years out of unless a GM is desperate to keep his job. And its fairly easy to get respective returns from younger & cheaper prospects. Plus the Steelers likely won't get what they think is fair value.

The Steelers have shown in the past they'll take what they can get if it means getting rid of a lockerroom cancer or malcontent.

True, but a talent like his doesn't come around very often. They shouldn't let him go for anything less than a grade A haul. Steelers can hold those cards and listen to offers. Don't think there's any rules against those talks occurring. They can be patient until the right offer comes along.

Highly doubt one will happen. If it were going to happen it would have happened around the draft. Rosters are pretty much locked in now.

It's also a pretty selfish thing to do which means it's a possibility with Bell.
Of course he'll do it. If that's the case then Tomlin needs to bench Bell to send a message. As @ATL96Steeler said, if he plays him in any capacity then he'll lose respect from the lockerroom. The men that fought & bled for this team in July & August deserve to be on that field more than a selfish, self-righteous asshole that didn't care about this team during that time. Talent be damned.

I am all for James Conner! Bell can sit out the entire year for all I care as long as Conner stays healthy and plays well.
