Have to credit ferry for unloading Johnson and his bloated contract and letting smith walk. Hawks very good but I have gut feeling their season will end much like the 2002 kings. The nba has got to realize that a spurs vs cavs finals would generate more money.

Traded our first-round pick Adriene Payne for a lottery-protected first-rounder. This opens up a roster spot. I guess they're going after Ray Allen.

Then they went on that streak and got everyone's attention.


Is it just me.... or does it feel like everyone's starting to ignore them again? Their record is still right there with the Warriors and Grizz... and they still have a great record against the west.

They don't have a media-loved superstar, play in a big basketball market, or have flashy offense---of course "everyone" is ignoring them. It took an ungodly number of wins in a row to get anyone to even take a glance at the Hawks. I don't think anyone in basketball is actually ignoring them any more, just the media.

But, with that said, they are 6-4 in the last 10 and have a history of fizzling out. While they are looking great, they do still have to prove it, and Cleveland is coming strong (and much more the media darling).

As time bore out, Ray didn't come back to the NBA. But the Hawks took a look at their roster and they saw that with Millsap, Scott, and Antic, they're loaded with bigs who can stretch the floor and shoot the 3. They don't need Payne's skill set, and he's not going to get playing time. So everyone wins here. Payne can go somewhere he can play and develop, the Hawks open up a slot to fill with a more urgent need, and they get an extra draft pick out of it.

Not really relevant, but I remember seeing some news features on Payne last year about his friendship with sick kids, and he just seemed like a really nice guy. I hope things work out for him where he lands.

So if you know the Four Factors model, the biggest factor, by far is Effective Field Goal %, then Turnover %. Watching the Hawks, I can see how they were engineered to shoot a high eFG% - they can just about all hit 3s. And they force a ton of turnovers. They rack up steals like nobody's business. These aren't accidents. The Hawks management definitely meant to do this.
