They wouldn't even have sniffed the playoffs either the last 2 seasons without Tippett. Guy's a ridiculously underrated coach. To get Ponicks to the playoffs the last 2 years with the team they had was incredible. Their lack of talent sure showed matched up against the Red Wings though. How unlucky can you get drawing them in the first round 2 years in a row.

When the Flames take the ice for opener tonight they'll have just 1 player in the lineup that they drafted- David Moss, 7th Rd Pick in 2001.

not to say there aren't draft picks elsewhere (Phaneuf, Foster, Stoll, Moen, Lombardi, etc), but that's still kind of amazing that only one is in the current roster. Would be 2 if Backlund was healthy, I s'pose.

As good as Tippet is the Yotes would never have made the playoffs without Bryzgalov, whom they got off waivers from the Ducks. Another BONEHEAD move by Burke.
