I hear ya, but kids today have no clue about nostalgia or prestige associated with a school's program history. These kids probably heard of the Titles and John Wooden but not one of them has most likely ever read any of his books.

It's more than that though.

UCLA has money, shiny digs, state of the art facilities. Russell Westbrook and Kevin Love coming back to campus.

Look at Louisville and Arizona. They were basically branded cheaters and they have the #1 and #2 recruiting classes for next year.

You still have to pick the right kids and build a consistently winning program. But UCLA should never be 15-16.

The problem with UCLA is they were stuck in between one and done and building a 4 year program.

Squashed like a grape...

Kentucky and Duke lead the world in one and done players but both of them seem to do okay year after year.

The difference is those two programs are fully committed to one and done.

UK is so committed to one and done that players who were 5 star recruits transfer or go pro even if they wont get drafted after one year, because they know somebody is coming in to take their spot.

Unless you're UK or Duke you need a number of guys who will be there 4 years.

UNC has the perfect college basketball model for today's game. Even if guys transfer or don't pan out or leave after one year, they still have their 3 and 4 year guys as a foundation.

I mean, it's easier said than done, but UCLA can recruit with some discretion.

douggie knows the Duke basketball program inside and out so douggie please correct me if I'm wrong on this:

Coach K was winning national championships before one and done players became the norm. Coach K has said in interviews that he does not like this one and done recruiting but in order to compete in today's landscape it's got to be done. Am I pretty close on that douggie?

I think you're trying to say K recruits the same type of players that he has always tried to recruit. It's just that recent success has several OADs at the same time such as this season.

Maybe it's called reloading rather than recruiting which both Duke and Carolina do very well.

Nice comeback win vs Oregon....

Bartow could be the guy if they continue to play well. Not a sexy hire but he has head coaching experience and ties to the program.

An Oregon State guy talking trash to UCLA. How cute.

To be fair, Oregon State has ten times the passionate fan base. UCLA and USC are only fans of winners. Hence why neither school with the most talent rich basketball area still suck and go through coaches like the C squad at a strip club. You can hire a new bouncer but when you recruit low you don’t get the customers.
