Thor is going to the Angels.

1 year/$21M

That's a very FZ type deal. Wonder if we were in?

Giants in on Castellanos apparently. Also in on Suzuki and Taylor. If we landed all three, I wonder if we'd trade Yaz?

He's below average, for sure. If we got him, I'd imagine LF.

FWIW, our final gift from Bobby Evans was trading Bryan Reynolds to PIT for a few months of Cutch.

I get it. It's similar to the Beltranny trade. But man I wish we had Wheeler and Reynolds back.

Except that the Reynolds-McCutchen trade was more a desperation move. The Giants was coming off a horrible 64-98 record in 2017. They were hardly contenders. The outfield was a disaster but, considering the team was a couple years from realistically winning (remember, 2020 and 2021 were surprises), that was hardly a good reason to trade off the future for a veteran already on the decline. But, hey, Evans was able to get Abital Avelino and Juan dePaula in exchange for McCutchen so that . . . wait, neither are in the org any longer? Never mind.

Yup. Again, similar to the Beltran trade in many respects. Wheeler and Reynolds are all stars...

I was thinking in terms of the reasons for the trades. Beltran made a lot more sense in that the Giants were in the midst of a pennant push and needed the extra help. The Giants were NOT even close to a chance at the pennant when they traded for McCutchen. But, yes, both are All-Stars and would have been great with the Giants. However, considering Wheeler moved to Philly in free agency, would he still have been with the Giants in 2021 had they never traded him?

It took 10 years for Wheeler to finally arrive. And the China Doll trade was a deadline deal on a contending team. I still stand behind that trade 100%.

And while I did not see Reynolds becoming anything at the time, trading for Cutch (and Longo, for that matter) didn’t make any sense at all, outside of being nice to Boch.

The Giants traded Jay Jackson to the Braves for cash considerations and a player to be named later.
