Ellsbury right now is probably one of the 10 worst hitters in baseball, based on his numbers so far.
middlebrooks is right there with him

au contraire - They were in the post season in 2009 and played like the Yankees did against Detroit. I'd also call being one Yankee intentional loss to the Rays on the final day of the season in 2011 "sniffing" the post season. They didn't get to bite, but they definitely got a whiff.

Don't forget Ichiro
With a team that was gonna challenge the 27 and 98 yankees as all time greats, they needed the yankees to beat the Rays while they lost to Baltimore to back in to the playoffs.
Yup, our fanbases sure have different standards.
"wahahhhhahhh the yankees intentionally lost to the rasy and we lost 11 staight and couldn't make the playoffs - moral victory for us Boston Strong" - really good fans.

Goddamned cashman and his failed draft picks
Don't forget Ichiro
I thought we were just listing bad hitters. my bad.
So if the Yankees offer to trade Gardner right now for Ellsbury, do you guys think Cherington drives Ellsbury to the airport himself, or calls for a taxi?
Considering Ellsbury's FA status and Gardner's current team control status, I'm sure Boston would love that deal...
No joke.
Why would Ellsbury's FA status matter?
At the rate he's going, it's not like it would be all that difficult to retain him, if they wanted to
He's up there too...
Rickie Weeks has to be the absolute worst though.
At least it gives us good material
As the Red Sox inevitably fade into another season of oblivion
"hey, they sure do draft well"
