I think it was a good move. They have a lot of talent on the forward lines but need some veteran leadership with the losses of Jagr & now Brier. I think Lecavlier brings them that element. Good signing by the Flyers IMO.

Agreed. Vinny is also a strong 2 way player and DB was a nightmare on the defensive end.

Don't be too sure of that ! I have watched Vinny for 15 years and couldn't believe how far he went downhill last year. Why do you think the Bolts bought him out ? He was very popular in Tampa.

The $7.8m cap hit. That's the exact reason they bought him out. It was easier to remove a big contract then go through a huge series of trades that they may not end up winning. This way Yzerman got to add to the team he's building and not what he inherited. This is a huge deal to any GM but I believe that guys like Yzerman(proven winners) are more active in the re-shaping of a team to fit what they believe wins championships.

Of course he's not the same player but he's still a very good player in this league. 2nd line center is less pressure and playing behind G should open things up a little. Don't fool yourself TB would have kept him if the cap didn't drop.....

2nd line Center and PP. As much as I like and appreciated DB, this is an upgrade on offense and defense. DB could not handle the defensive responsibilities of Center and as such was a low +-. Vinny is a good 2 way player. DB will probably get another 20 this year but so will Vinny and he will be better on the back check. Getting excited to see what we put together within the next few months

Yep let Schenn learn the center position from a vet. Eventually he'll take over and Lecav can move to the wing. That's the way I'd do it.
